Competitive sports aren 't that bad. There is a fine line between whether kids should play competitive sports. Some believe that sports has too many negative impacts for it to be positive. However I strongly believe that kids should be involved in competitive sports for many reasons that make sports a positive activity. For instance it provides a healthy lifestyle, and competitive sports can teach very valuable lessons in life that will carry with them forever.. One reason they are very important for kids is that children can form a healthy lifestyle from sports. According to Los Angeles Times, the parents are one to blame when it comes to child obesity. This is why enrolling your kid in sports can take the fault right of your shoulders.
I believe that the positives of being involved in middle school sports, by far, outweigh the negatives. Being involved in middle school sports help these children grow to be adults physically, emotionally, and socially. According to the CDC many children in the United States are obese and overweight. Middle school sports encourage children to stay physically active and fit.
A major reason is that sports keep kids healthy. R. Dawn Comstock, an investigator at the Center for Injury Research and Policy stated “We have an epidemic of obesity in this country, and sports is one of the ways for kids to incorporate exercise in their lives” (qtd. in Perkel 2) . Most kids don’t get active anymore.
It is a great way to develop the lifestyle of a child. Sports in my opinion shapes the
Kids can translate the hard work they've put into their sport by working harder to be a better student or employee and a better person overall. Kids sports can most definitely help in the area of working together with someone or a
But, according to , kids are now being thought new and enhanced techniques of playing the sport. The chances of injuries and concussions are rapidly decreasing. Therefore, kids should be allowed to play the sport. Moreover, it has been proven through many studies that active kids do better in school.
Health and contact sports are something parents worry about as over 500 deaths in the past 3 years from contact sports alone are making parents stand out against these sports and if the government doesn 't do anything about it the number of 7% overall contact sports drop will just keep getting lower and lower each time. Dr. William Speight also had this to say “Many other kids have suffered paralyzing spinal injuries”(Pennington). Kids being paralyzed is the fear for many athletes these days and the number f kids getting paralyzed has increases 2% which is equivalent to about 8,000 kids each year which is crazy to think about kids can 't play sports for the rest of thrie and maybe not be able to live their life because of it so next you hear mom or dad i wanna play sports your answer should be a simple NO. Kids under 10 need to stop playing contact sports because 45% of kids under 10 getting hurt are from contact sports and 5% of the time its ending that kids chances to play sports in the feature, Not to mention contact sports can also make kids go to their fullest and being burned out and although contact provide some kids will useful tools in life most of the time there is more negative than positive. Health, Age, Contact, parents, are some of the many reasons contact sports can be very dangerous for the youth.
Dr. Frank L. Smoll states, “All children and youth need vigorous physical activity as part of their daily lives, and sports provide the benefits of exercise and the potential for acquiring a sense of accomplishment.” (Smoll 1/2).
Children experience more harmful negative impacts, rather than beneficial positive ones, such as being at a constant risk of severe injury, wanting to opt out of sports early, and being under high levels of stress and anxiety. These impacts could lead to children being injured for an extended amount of time, children being inactive and unfit later in life, children dropping out of school, and many other catastrophic circumstances that children should not have to put up with. The opposing side suggests that children who participate in competitive sports experience positive impacts, such as staying healthy and in shape, and having positive psychological benefits. In some instances, these impacts may be true, however families with a child athlete opted for fast food, ready-made meals more than those of families who did not have a child athlete. Also, while competitive sports provide some psychological benefits, it has also been proven that they can cause stress, anxiety, and ultimately, attrition for the young athlete.
Summary In “Children Need to Play, Not Compete,” Jessica Statsky tries to demonstrate the negative effect of organized sports on the physical and psychological health of growing child. She claims that the games are not festive but they end up in the wrong development of a child’s brain. The coaches and parents have high hopes for their children that result in the pressure building. This changes the purpose of sports from teaching tolerance, teamwork and sportsmanship to merely winning by all means.
The idea of extreme sports has changed drastically over the years, going from skateboarding in the streets to jumping out of planes with nothing but a parachute to soften your landing. These extreme sports have many advantages for kids who participate in it such as health benefits, psychological benefits, and opportunities to participate in a sport they can enjoy individually. The dangers do still exist, but one can become hurt while participating in any sport so those dangers are not relevant, therefore pros outweigh cons and kids should be able to participate in extreme sports. Kids who participate in extreme sports have an opportunity to compete in a sport they enjoy rather than engaging in team sports that involve being dependent on others.
The first reason that kids should participate in competitive sports is that sports teach kids valuable morals. By learning these morals and life lessons from an early age, they are more likely to start using them in the future
Kids leave sports for reasons not just because it was a bad sport. Most kids leave because of the added pressures to win. Most kids play sports to learn how to play the right way, and to have fun. If someone could find the bliss between the two, youth sports would be the best thing that ever happened to the world. There is such thing as healthy competition.
I have loved competition ever since a young age. I have several friends that I love to compete with. We compete every day, whether it is sports or if it in school games. We have been competing for as long as I can remember. Although my friends and I believe that competition is a great thing at school, some parents and schools are trying to argue that we should remove competition from school.
This is really important due to the recent problem of obesity, and sports can make kids have healthier lives, and this will lead them to a different path that will not let them cross paths with health problems caused by things like obesity. Obesity is serious and leads to things like diabetes, and can ruin the childhoods of kids if they never got a chance for sports to help them keep
The author Thelma Gomez, says “Playing sports is an important elemen5t in the lives of many American children.” And she is correct. Sports can make kids the next David Wright, the next LeBron James, the next Eli Manning, or the next Lionel Messi. The best part of sports is that you're improving your physical health, psychological health, social skills, and academic benefits. Physical and phychological health can benefit a child in many ways.
