Not only is Kingston a beautiful town, it’s also a perfect vacation getaway. Located in eastern Ontario, Kingston has been consistently ranked as one of the best cities to live in. One very exciting and historic place to go visit is Fort Henry. Fort Henry was built from 1832 to 1837, to replace the existing barricade from the war amongst the time of 1812. Throughout the years, armies and troops have occupied the space and several schools and camps have also taken place in the Fort. But, the fort later fell into brutal disrepair, until 1936 when the fort was completely restored as a living history museum. Today, Fort Henry is still a museum and historic site, where visitors can experience a whole new perspective of 19th century military life. One of the tours is called the Atlantic experience which is 19 dollars a person and includes, exploring the grounds of the Fort, a trip on the ferry around the harbor, and learning what happened during the war. When the tour is over you can grab a bite to eat at the snack bar or go buy souvenirs at the bookstore! If you think your kids will get bored, they have something called the National Park Service Flat Ranger. Which means they can explore different times of conflict in our history. These periods encompass the American Revolution, the War of 1812, and the Civil War.

Implications for this book include Santos’s desire to help fix the prison system and the mass incarceration issue the U.S is facing. Santos is also helping other that are being prosecuted by the failing system. Upon being released and piecing his life back together, Santos started his own foundation called the Michael G Santos foundation. Through this foundation, Santos is helping bring awareness to the socials issues that result from mass incarceration while also helping former prisoner transition and integrate successfully back into the work force. The Pennsylvania system and the Auburn system were the building blocks for the prisons and jails we have today. Virtually every prison built in the nineteenth century was based off of either the Pennsylvania or Auburn system. These two systems are ones that are rich in history and over their years of operation have managed to show many things that the systems have done correctly and the many faults within each system. In this essay I shall discuss with you, the history of these two systems; along with, the pros and cons of each system, and discuss why I felt that Auburn prison system was substantially better.
