On June 7, 1776, the Lee Resolution was proposed to the Continental Congress. It is called the Lee Resolution because it was submitted to Congress by Richard Henry Lee of Virginia. He was acting on the orders of the Virginia Convention, which had unanimously voted that its delegates to Congress should submit a resolution that they should consider a formal declaration of independence from Great Britain. This act was signed into law on August 6, 1965, by President Lyndon Johnson. It outlawed the discriminatory voting practices adopted in many southern states after the Civil War, including literacy tests as a prerequisite to voting, also in those years, African Americans in the South faced tremendous obstacles to voting, including poll taxes, literacy tests, and other bureaucratic restrictions to deny them the right to vote. The declaration of independence was commissioned by US congress in 1817 to paint scenes that depicted the American revolution and the beginning of the country. And it’s was purchased in 1819, and placed in the rotunda in 1826. This painting depicts the second continental congress with John Hancock as the president of the congress. the painting represents 48 of the eventual 56 signers of the declaration. The congress assigned 5 delegate from the 13 colonies to draft the Declaration of independence.
After Lexington and Concord, the Second Continental Congress didn’t pursue independence, but they did select George Washington as the military commander. From April 1775 to July 1776, many colonists were confused for their feelings of independence; some colonists wanted to mend differences, while others wanted to fight Britain. The British fought back hard and strong by burning down towns and attacking the colonists. Thomas Paine’s book, Common Sense, argued that the colonists out grew the need for any English rule and they should be given independence. Civil Rights ensure an individual to be treated fairly and equally from the likes of government and other individuals. Civil liberties and Rights are both similar in that they protect the individual of rights of people, allowing society to function in a successful and reasonable manner. Both are essential in the modern world today in order to protect individuals from unfair treatment. Though being very similar, Civil liberties and Rights do have their differences as well.

In July 4, 1776, the United States declared independence from Great Britain. A document was drafted to legalize the independence: The Declaration of Independence. Thomas Jefferson was credited for writing this honored document that changed everything for the American colonists. The documents was excessively long, but some major ideas are as follows: the Preamble, the declaration of natural rights, and the resolution of independence.
The Commerce clause refers to Article 1, Section 8, Clause 3 of the United States Constitution, which gives Congress the power “to regulate commerce with foregin nations, and among the several states, and with the Indian tribes”. This clause is one of the most fundamental powers delegated to congress by the founders. It has helped to seprate the powers between the federal governemtn and the states, along with the branches of governemtn and Judiciary. In simpler terms the commerce clause was to help regulate commerce among navigable waters.

It’s hard to believe that this country was at one point governed by a distant British king, and that before Americans claimed equal rights, they were subject to British tyranny. Americans were in desperate need of a leader who would step up for his people and declare independence, Americans were in desperate need of Thomas Jefferson. ‘ Thomas Jefferson was born on April 13, 1743 at his family home in Shadwell, not far from Charlottesville. His father, Peter Jefferson, was a planter while his mother, Jane Randolph, was a stay at home mom.

After that, the colonists wouldn't let the British lead them, so they chose people to write a Declaration of Independence. On June 11, 1776, delegates appointed a committee of five to write the declaration.
