In the American society, we are seeing more and more of criminal situations being reported and defined as date rape.Date rape is a common problem facing women in today 's society. Date rape is a form of sexual violence and is not a woman 's fault if she happens to fall victim of date rape. The two forms of rape are acquaintance rape and the well known date rape. Date rape is wrong in all cultures. The main causes of date rape are drugs which come in different forms and have different names. There are many ways to prevent date rape; however, there are also ways to receive help if a woman fall victim to date rape. The major rape is "date rape" in which the victim and the assailant are acquainted in some way. Many campus parties are promoted by the fraternities of alcohol and drugs are always involved. Frat men can easily take advantage of women at these parties because the majority of people are under the influence of drugs. Men can easily slip something in the women 's drink or get her drugged to take advantage of her. Another example, is to become a victim of date rape is at clubs. Everybody goes to the club, there’s a lot of people drinking and getting drunk. When a man buys a woman a drink this is an easy scheme to simply slip something in her drink without her knowing. Once the woman is incapacitated she is than sexually assaulted. After being drugged the victim is left in a helpless or unconscious state, they cannot escape, resist, or call for help. The main causes of date rape are the drugs that are used to make the victims unconscious, helpless and resentful. Alcohol is often involved in date rapes. Drinking can loosen inhibitions, dull common sense, and for some people allow aggressive tendencies to surface. Drugs play a major role in date rape also. The three main date rape drugs are rohypnol, gamma-hydroxyl butyrate, and …show more content…
Drugs like these can easily be mixed in drinks to make a person black out and forget things that happen. The first and most common drug is rohypnol but some people may know or refer to this drug as "roofies". Rohypnol is a strong sedative which is similar to the drug valium, but is ten times stronger than valium (Lyness). The pill is similar in shape, size, and color to aspirin. Rohypnol is a small white tablet that is single or cross-scored on one side and has the word "Roche" on the other side. It also has a circled numeral one or two on it. Rohypnol can easily be dissolved in juice, coffee, carbonated and alcoholic beverages. It is colorless, odorless, and tasteless when dissolved in any liquid. The effects of this drug are enhanced when mixed with alcohol. When rohypnol is mixed with a drink and drunk it causes sedation, loss of inhibitions, relaxation, blackouts and amnesia. It can also cause respiratory depression, coma, and even death. Also rohypnol causes disorientation or confused sense of time and place and it may relax muscles and motor performance suffers. It is also important to try to stay away from this drug because it will have a person sedated for a long time. The takes effect after about twenty to thirty minutes and effects may last as long as eight to twelve hours. As mentioned before, when combined with alcohol, rohypnol causes severe disorientation and the classic "blackouts" that it is known
This painkiller is an opioid and it works by imitating endorphins, the natural painkillers in the body, which block pain signals to the brain. As per the Drug Enforcement Agency in America, it is 50 times as potent as heroin.
1. How would Akers explain street level drug sales and date rape? Akers would be following his 4 concepts which are • Differential association; In which the person is exposed to the criminal behavior, by direct contact and interactions with friends, family, groups, media and more. Which will expose the individual to those events and situations that are not normal, but if the individuals is confronted with those same events or situation it eventually become the norm.
Most teenagers complain about not having enough freedom. To be able to sit and eat ice cream out of the box at ten in the morning for breakfast or blast their favorite music as loud as possible. For most, college provides that, opening its campus to their students with gates of gold granting young adults the freedom that they dream about. Unfortunately, a new danger that once was cloaked from young minds is being revealed, making this freedom less obtainable. That danger is rape.
The first being that “relations between men and women are shaped by the contexts in which they meet and interact.” (Boswell and Spade 1996: 221) This causes rape because the men and women meet at fraternity parties where sex is expected, when a women says no the men find it hard to believe and assume she’s playing hard to get so he does not think badly of her. Another is the attitude towards rape on college campuses, while many women understand and accept the legal definition of rape many of the men interviewed struggled with it one even went as far as to say “If that is the legal definition of rape, then it happens all the time on this campus.” This is a problem because many of the men do not realizing they are raping a girl when it occurs.
Chapter eight of my book talks about Sexual Assault. Rap, sexual abuse and assault happens more than we think and not just among women, however, men as well. The odds are that the person who abuses you is likely someone that you know. Many sexual abuse cases involving children is unreported as a result of being scared, ashamed, guilt or threatened, same goes for being raped or attempted rapes. There are several myths about rap in the manner that women provoke or wanted to be raped, cry rap to take revenge, women wanted it since they did not resist and many more.
Not only does alcohol abuse lead to death of loved ones, but also has been the cause of many date rape incidents. Around 75% of men and 55% of women, involved in date rape, had alcohol play a factor in what happened. Date rape can lead to unwanted pregnancies, STDs, and
When college students under the age of Twenty-one old drink, they are damaging their brain and their way of succeeding in life. Drinking five drinks in a row at a party in college can also lead to unplanned sex and even danger to their own memory. “Compared with students who binge drink one or two times in a 2-week period, those who binge three or more times are twice as likely to experience alcohol-induced memory losses (27 percent vs. 54 percent, respectively), not use protection during sex (10 percent vs. 20 percent, respectively), engage in unplanned sex (22 percent vs. 42 percent, respectively), and get hurt or injured (11 percent vs. 27 percent, respectively), and are equally likely to need medical treatment for an overdose (1 percent vs. 1 percent).” White also says, (White) “ Whereas binge frequency is associated with an increased risk of negative outcomes, additional research indicates that there is a relationship between how often a student binges and the peak number of drinks he or she consumes.”
In society and college campuses, sexual assault occurs quite frequently. According to an estimation one third of women experience a forced sexual experience at least once in their life and most of the time it occurs in colleges. Men have also been reported to be victim of sexual assaults mostly by other men. Most of the time the sexual assault is planned and perpetrated by a third person, who is known to the victim of incident. Drug and alcohol use play role in this issue and contribute to the problem as most of the time the victim and perpetrators are under the effect of alcohol or any other drug during the incident.
With that in mind it is not hard to believe that sexual assault is directly linked to alcohol intake. What is shocking are the exact numbers of sexual assault cases that involve alcohol. In an article about sexual assault, Robin Hattersley-Gray writes that “Forty-three percent of the sexual victimization incidents involve alcohol consumption by victims and sixty-nine percent involve alcohol consumption by the perpetrators” (par. 12). The consumption of alcohol impairs impulse control and risk assessment. If alcohol is involved, victims are likely to fail to realize they are in any danger before it’s too
Besides having, bruising, bleeding and soreness, rape victims are likely to have, anxiety, uncontrollable thoughts of the tragic events, and reoccurring nightmares. Most of these women are already malnourished before an attack takes place, and the effects of the rape takes a major toll on the body. This has a tremendous impact for all victims, but especially for virgins. Virgins are women who have never had sexual relations prior to the rape. They feel they have lost all sense of identity and no one will ever take them as a wife.
There are ambiguities in the definitions of everything common enough to be defined. The definition of ‘a scratch’ is used liberally by a teenager parking for the first time, as is the definition of ‘noticeable’ when their BFF has a pimple. The way we define a crime as serious as rape shouldn’t be nearly as dubious. As it is, organizations have been vocalizing that same sentiment for forty-two years of the eight decades it took the FBI to change it (Klein 183). The past definition categorizes rape as “the carnal knowledge of a female forcibly and against her will.”
I hope that during my undergraduate years at George Mason University I will be able to investigate the problem affecting many colleges that is date rape drugs. Rape on college campuses is a horrifying epidemic that our country is facing. According to healthresearchfunding.org “Up to 90% of college campus rapes occur through date rape incidents.” Almost every day on the news there is a new story about a woman who was a victim of rape or sexual assault, and most of the time the perpetrator gets away hands free. A major reason why date rape drugs are commonly used is because they are easily slipped in to drinks at college parties and are undetectable by the victim.
According to the Rape, Abuse, and Incest National Network, another person endures sexual assault every 98 seconds. This information may have been shocking ten years ago, but for many, this news is a basic fact of life. Sexual assault cases have continued to become more and more common as time goes on. What is causing this surge in unwanted physical contact? The cause of sexual assault is one hundred percent of the time, the assaulter’s fault.
Nearly one in five women surveyed that they had been raped or had experienced a rape attempt once in their lives. If you are unsure what rape means I will provide you with a simple definition, Rape is unlawful sexual intercourse or any other sexual penetration by another person without your consent. While according
Sexual assault and sexual abuse are two common types of sexual violence. Sexual assault is a sexual act that could be committed by anyone no matter what kind of relationship they have with the victim. Sexual abuse is an undesired sexual behaviour that was forced upon a person; sexual abuse can be possible to happen for any gender and at any age. So, in case you don’t know sexual assault can be a touch on somewhere you don’t want anyone to touch For example, your thigh, neck...
