MLK 50th Celbration This event was to celebrate the 50th anniversary of Martin Luther King Jr. visiting Sacramento State's campus and giving a speech. Sacramento state was the only California State University that Martin Luther King visited. This mainly was because he was not welcomed at the other universities. Sacramento State welcomed him with open arms and did not leave him out in cold. Sacramento state had the nerve, the courage and the good sense to invite the great Martin Luther King. Sacramento state fought against the grain and invited him even though they knew how others would feel about it. We let him in to speak his great truths and share his ideas with the students, faculty, and community. Martin Luther King's words are as meaningful

Growing up was unfair for MLK JR. He and every other african american citizen had been treated unfairly. They had been segregated and hated, but why? They only difference is their skin color, their all the same on the inside. MLK knew that it was wrong to have segregation.
From the years 1957 to 1968, he travelled six million miles and spoke to crowds of people over 25 hundred times. Wherever there was injustice, protest or action he spoke. In these eleven years Martin Luther King led a huge world renowned protest in Birmingham. It was also now that he wrote his inspiring letter called “A Letter to Birmingham Jail”. He planned the drives in Alabama to legalize black people voting.

When he got older he had been a part of leadership for the civil rights movement. The civil right movement was taken place from December 1955 to April 1968. Throughout his leadership he ended segregation for all African Americans in the United States. In 1964, Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. famous speech “I Had a Dream” became a Nobel Peace Prize Lecture and along with “Letter from a Birmingham Jail.” He also was known as the Man of the Year for 1963.
Throughout this course as a class we have covered many topics such as Freedom, War, Religion and Happiness to name a few. When you 're learning about different events that have happened you gain a better understanding of what has happen to make the world we live in today what it is, there is good things that has shaped the United States but there is also some bad things that has happen in the past the has shaped the kind of world we live in today. It is an honor to be here this morning to commemorate the 50th anniversary of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr's assassination. Dr. King was a Baptist minister and social activist who championed the advancement of civil rights through tactics of nonviolence and civil disobedience. Fifty years ago, Dr. King arrived in Memphis Tennessee to support the sanitation workers strike. On April 3, 1968, he delivered his last sermon here in Memphis, Tennessee, entitled “I’ve Been to the Mountaintop” at the Mason Temple Church of God in Christ and on the following day, Dr. King was assassinated.
Martin Luther King Jr is the most iconic civil rights leader in history. If anyone is unsure of his significance, they could simply take a trip to Washington, D.C to view his magnificent monument. Dr. King in the 1950s and 1960s, led protests and spoke on numerous occasions about injustice and segregation within the African American community. Although he had many Anti- Racism protest, his most legendary took place in Birmingham, Alabama. While in Birmingham, Dr. King was arrested which led to him writing a detailed letter to the city clerk.
Martin Luther King Jr. “Our lives begin to end the day we become silent about things that matter” this quote has a meaning in standing up for yourself as in for freedom , equal rights and justice. Martin Luther King Jr took one of the main roles in the Civil Rights Movement as in saying in the quote he used for Americans but different races all around the world. Martin Luther King inspired people to do things back then and now modern day just like he inspired the bus boycott in the Civil Rights Movement standing up for equal rights. Martin Luther King Jr Impacted a lot of people lives not just African Americans. The Civil Rights Movement gained attention and respect in most states.
