MC Lyte is a Hip-Hop legend , she exemplifies the true meaning of the “Golden Age of Hip-Hop”. MC Lyte is still to this day a visible force in Hip-Hop music, Hip-Hop culture, Hip-Hop youth, and various other aspects. From the very beginning of her rap career in the late 1980s, she let it be known that she is not “Paper Thin” and she can stand strong amongst the male-dominated rapping scene during that time. MC Lyte is more than just a female rapper, she is a international speaker, DJ, icon, Hip Hop veteran, entrepreneur, and author. The rappers answers were just a small insight on why she is so important and well respected in Hip Hop. Rapper Maino states that "She is one of the greatest of all time, it wouldn 't be no Foxy Brown or Lil Kim; She paved the way, and she reps Brooklyn to the fullest.” While rapper 8Ball says that "MC Lyte was definitely a pioneer for women in hip hop. Her flow was unique, honest, lyrical and hard. She rocked the club and she could tell a story with her music as well. Lastly, rapper Trina states that "MC Lyte is hip hop; she represents a culture of music that paved the way for female artists worldwide” (“Why We Love MC Lyte”). Furthermore, there are countless rap artist who name MC Lyte as one of the artists that helped influence their music. Two artist in particular that credits MC Lyte as one of the female MC’s that helped influence their rap career is Missy Elliot and Eve. These two female emcees reflect MC Lyte’s legacy by never straying away from their musical talents and never conforming to the negative aspects of the Hip Hop world. The negative aspects are the misogynistic and sexual images that are so often associated with Hip Hop music. Missy Elliot, Eve, and MC Lyte all have one thing in common they all have impeccable delivery and amazing storytelling skills (Bobbitt). From MC Lyte’s song titled “Cappuccino” to Eve’s song titled “Love is Blind” they both exemplify the artists amazing storytelling skills while showcasing prominent issues the African American community such as drug abuse and domestic violence.
