Throughout Monkey Beach, it is clear how different figures in Lisa’s life treat her differently and judge her because they are disconnected from their Haisla roots and cannot empathize with Lisa’s struggles. Lisa and her Ma-ma-oo, however, share a deep connection in spirituality and lineage. Therefore, she is the only one who can truly guide Lisa in understanding her gift. Ma-ma-oo is one of the few family members who positively influence Lisa by exposing her to Haisla culture, through the sacred traditions, songs, and stories. We are made up of three parts: spirit mind, and body. As we are born, our spirit leaves the Creator and the spirit world, complete with its information containing innate gifts, talents and destiny. Spirit enters the baby’s body and life begins. The child enters four stages of life: childhood, youth, adulthood, and elder years. During the lifetime, each person’s challenge is to find the Creator, celebrate the Creator and be of service with one’s gifts to one’s people, to all of humankind, and to all life in Creation. [...] Afterlife The spirit can be seen and felt leaving the body. It travels westward across prairie grass, over a river and into the mountains. It ascends the mountains to the high clouds where a bright light guides it to a place where loved ones wait to embrace it. The spirit lives forever. It takes its place in the spirit world according to the deeds completed on earth. The spirit completes its journey in the cycle of life to return to its place of origin. (Longboat et al

Each culture has unique beliefs and traditions about what happens after death, but they all share the idea that the soul still exists outside the physical body. In Navajo mythology, the afterlife is divided into several dimensions with the ultimate goal of reaching the fifth world. In Egyptian mythology, the afterlife is a complex system of judgment and rebirth with the ultimate goal of reaching the cane field. In Arabic mythology, the afterlife is a place of eternal reward or punishment with the ultimate goal of reaching paradise. In these cultures, beliefs and practices related to the afterlife reflect their views on life, death, and the nature of the soul.
What Comes Next? Afterlives, Culture, and Philosophy The afterlife is a constant mystery throughout human history. Many different cultures have created religions that attempt to explain what happens after we leave this mortal coil, up to today. While many reach a similar conclusion, such as several modern religions, what do religions and mythologies of past cultures say about them? What does modern religion say about modern humanity?
As people get older, they start to wonder about what happens after death. Is it heaven, is it an afterlife, is it an endless void of nothing, a spirit realm, the purest place you can go to, a place where everything is perfect and just as it used to be, a peaceful place of rest before heaven? No one truly knows where you go until death but at that point, there is no way for us to know what is to come. So how would one know when they’ve died and reached heaven? Since no one knows, many people choose to follow certain religions to help prepare for what is to come after death and hope that the religion they follow is true and will end them up in their version of heaven.
The beliefs of death and the aftermath of what occurs is taken from the book of Mormon. This is where theses church members receive their beliefs from and what they remain with. It is stated that at the time of death, “The spirit and body separate and "the spirits of all men, whether they be good or evil, are taken home to that God who gave them life. The righteous are received into a state of happiness, which is called paradise, a state of rest, a state of peace, where they shall rest from all their troubles and from all care and sorrow.”
To current Christians this is known as heaven, we truly aren't certain about what it is however, the Gospel says it is internal friendship with the Holy Trinity. These documents demonstrate that if Christians put their beliefs into God we will receive the promises of immortality and deliverance of the soul from
Watching her wade waist deep into the water after a bucket and almost being pulled under, Jimmy on shore kept repeating “What are you doing”, to which Lisa finally after regaining control of her thoughts said, “I don't know,” I said, “I really don't know” (Robinson 357). It was only after Jimmy pulled her from the water and questioned her that Lisa realized the deep effect and control that the spirits were having on her life. During a rest stop on Lisa’s' journey to Vanover, Lisa subconsciously, not in cuts her wrist to make an offering to the thing in the trees. ‘I turn around in circles, offering this to the thing in the trees, waiting’ (Robinson 366). Gaining control, Lisa comes to understand how blindly she is following the spirits' messages and how it is affecting her mental well-being.
In the Christian faith, Christians believe that once your earthly body has passed on that your spiritual body lifts to heavenly with all of your brother and sisters in God to live eternally, only if you believe and
Various religions across the world employ several different concepts that non-believers often find very strange or difficult to grasp. There is however a concept that is universally understood and somewhat accepted by the vast majority of our contemporary society. This is of course the concept of an afterlife. The afterlife can be defined as a sort of state of being where the consciousness of an individual persists even after the physical death of the body. This concept plays a central role in nearly all religions that employ it and is sometimes dependent on the existence of a God.
