Who Am I? Throughout my course IDS 240 Foundations of Lifelong Learning, I have gained a variety of new insights that will forever change my values and compassion of who I am in this world. It was through various theories, including Strengths, spiritual gifts, and different personality inventories that provided me with great clarity in the search for my vocational calling. Although at times I felt a sense of confusion when learning the 3 Facets and reading the first two chapters of the Palmer Parker textbook, there is no doubt in my mind that I will be able to overcome these issues and successfully continue my journey. Self-awareness is a key component to answering such questions as to “who you are as a person?” and “what values or spiritual …show more content…
Through recognizing these frameworks of Strengths, individuals can focus their time and energy on maximizing their potential and gaining positive fulfillment as well. Ultimately, people need the opportunity to utilize their strengths throughout their daily living. In fact, in the article The Six Essentials of Workplace Positivity, it is recognized that “the happiest, most successful people have the opportunity to use their strengths often.” Through recognizing, implementing, and valuing my own talents I will not only build self-fulfillment, but I will also have the opportunity to help others identify their strengths. I have found it valuable to spend more time on enhancing the strengths which I find most valuable and leave behind those which aren’t as necessary. The overall quality of strengths is astonishing and the growth of understanding I have gained about my own strengths opened up my eyes as to who I am. Not only are Strengths a valuable theory to understand, but recognizing your spiritual gifts are just as valuable if not …show more content…
I felt as though these tools provided more of a cast doubt toward my self-image and life aspirations than they did clarity. I felt this way, considering I am at a time in my life where I am slowly beginning to find and build a relationship with God. While clarity wasn’t exactly established in these learning tools, I do believe it is just a matter of time, listening, and determination that I will overcome these doubts, in addition to gaining awareness as to what my life intends to do with me, rather than what I intend to do with it. I am anxious and hungry for a vision and I look forward to the day I become aware of my
SCI411 Academic and personal development Portfolio: Part 1 From not being in education for a few years, being able to recognise my own academic skills, strengths and weaknesses was quite difficult. However, over these first couple of weeks in lectures my learning strengths and weaknesses have made themselves apparent. Whilst filling out the questionnaire Skills Self-Assessment Audit (Theeducators, 2013) it took a lot of understanding of the questions to be able to answer honestly, and my lowest scores reflected this in the personal effectiveness category. It’s very likely that you usually pay more attention to your shortcomings than your strong points. You customarily devote yourself to overcoming your limitations.” (Gallup, n.d., p. 5). This statement is very true; I am a very motivated individual, and I am always trying to better myself. I am a person that does not focus on my strengths, but on my weaknesses that I need to improve.
No one person is the same as another, we all interact, behave, think and feel differently, and I think this is what amazes me the most. One strength that is substantive to my career that I believe I have, is empathy. I have always had such an efficacious sense of empathy with the people around me.
One of my strengths is in creativity. I am person who excels greatly when I am able to be creative and have freedom to think outside the box. However, that can also become a weakness because for assignments that are more limited and structured I to find to be challenging. Another strength I have is being able to learn quickly from my previous mistakes. There are times where I mess up or do something wrong, but my plan is to put those failures to good use.
In “Strengths Finder 2.0,” Tom Rath informs us that, “You cannot be anything you want to be- but you can be a lot more of who you already are” (Rath p9). I agree with him in the fact that we must focus on our strengths rather than trying to better our weaknesses in order to become successful. So many people today put their attention towards improving their weaknesses that they are surpass by others who focus on their strengths. After learning my own personal strengths, I have a better understanding of who I am and how to focus on these both in school and in the workforce.
I have become more determined which is one of my strengths. What I have done to stay more focused is make a list of my priorities that I need to stay on task with. It makes me feel better about myself when I check things off my list. I have been also persistent which is another strength that will help me succeed and will help me become a better

Are your strength or problem-focused? I considering myself a strength focus (strengths-bases approach), because the person or an organization is presented with a problem that need to be solve. Therefore, for strengths-based approaches or strengths-based approaches is the best method since it concentrates on the inherent strengths of individuals, families, groups, and organizations, deploying personal strengths to aid recovery and empowerment. To focus on health and well-being is to embrace an asset-based approach where the goal is to promote the positive (Toner, 2016).
Nevertheless, it is the way that friction is approached that makes a difference. By applying my positive attitude and sense of finding a common ground among coworkers, it will enable me to apply this strength to my daily life. Lastly, the strength of achiever was a lesser theme for me compared to my other top strengths. I sometimes take on too many tasks and want to accomplish many things in order to make me feel good about myself. I am extremely committed to everything I do and influence others to succeed in what they do.

‘Conscious bringing into awareness of a greater understanding of both who, and how, we are in the world is known as the process of personal development’ (Parfitt, 2006 as cited by Share & Lalor, 2009, p233). By actively working on our self-development we can advance and progress and not be stuck at a certain point. ‘The social care worker is not practising to his or her full potential if they are not engaged in awareness and development of the self’ (Share & Lalor, 2009, p123). ‘Self-awareness, self-management and self-care are critical elements of emotional and professional competence’.
Strengths: As a student one of my strengths is organization. I can say I can keep my school materials and notebooks organized in a way that I and others can comprehend. The reason I can say I am organized is because, I have hardly ever had in the past or present any issues with trying to find homework or assignments because I always kept my materials for each class organized and in a place I could easily find. Another strength I have is social skills. I can believe that I communicate with others well in a group.
