During my life I have experienced many different human services, for example, my experience as a foster child helped to mold my current educational path. There were many services I can remember, but my most experienced included: Social workers, Drug counselors, and Child Abuse Workers. From the age of 3 till I got legally adopted at the age of 18, I was involved in one or all of these services, because of my parent’s abuse. First, I was first introduced to a social worker when I about 9 years old, when I was taken away from my mother, and I was placed into foster care for about 6 months. During this process I was scared at first, because I didn’t know what to expect and it was new, but over time I realize that my living conditions were much better. I did get place back with my parent’s after they followed their policies, and I ended back in the system a few years later. My view of Social workers is positive, because they have a job to help people, but many live well below the middle class, so I feel like they should be paid according to their dedication to help people. …show more content…
My experience was very good, because they were all very nice and you could tell they wanted to help us as a family. Even now I think those type of programs work in helping the family aspect treatment, but may programs don’t include the family. Back then I can remember they placed my mom on a waiting list, and once she attended the program it was about a month before she earned the privilege of family. While this program didn’t work for my family, the fact, is that many other families have benefited from similar
The S.W must acknowledge that Ashley at her age experiences new sensations and feelings. She might place a great importance on what other people may think of her. That's why she might be reluctant and hesitant in disclosing certain aspects about her existing situation. We don't know if Ashley discussed her concerns with her mum or other family members, so she needs to be approached sensitively , as she might feel ashamed. She might be afraid that she might be disbelieved by Jackie or her extended family, therefore there is a risk of emotional abuse that might arise as a consequence of her disclosure.
Most of my clients are single parents with multiple kids trying to make ends meet for their family. Often times I get clients who just can’t afford the outside treatment, and they end up giving up and unsuccessfully
Having the knowledge of FLC gives me a foundation for understanding what typical issues stand out in each season of one's life. This helps me to pay special or extra attention to an individual's progress or stagnation in the area, how that presents symptoms in the client, and how it may impact their later growth or progression. For instance, the client is currently at Stage 2 but have yet to prepare to be a mother as she does not want to have any children after marriage. Therefore, she missed some tasks such as making space for children and joining in child rearing, financial and household tasks.
Things that would be unprofessional as a Social Worker would be clothing that are revealing too much bare skin. Clothing that is torn, frayed or stained is not unacceptable. Having on too much perfume, exposing tattoos and facial and body piercing and coming to work with colored hair. Overall you should always represent yourself in a positive and professional
1) I became interested in social work after working in a residential treatment facility and witnessing the impact the “system” has on children. I have worked with children who were institutionalized at a young age. They had had several placements ranging from foster homes, group homes, lock down facilities etc., revolving social workers, and broken trust in adults. While working with these children, providing one-on-one care and building rapport, I began to notice the gaps in the system and how they affected these children. With the work I have done providing services to individuals from infancy to adulthood, I have seen the effects of trauma on their life trajectory, if not properly supported.
After this assignment I have learned that Department of Social Services provides a lot of different services to those in need. Just from hearing and reading stories those who work in the field of Social Services aren’t always given a good rep, especially those who work in Child Protective Services. From doing this interview I was pleasantly surprised as to how much work Social Workers do to provide children with a safe and stable environment. There is a lot that goes into what they do every day. I have always known I want to work with children.
Why did you choose that agency and the relevance for your future clients? Being an active duty military spouse, the military lifestyle has become a large part of my identity and I belong within the military community. Working for the Airman and Family Readiness Center as a Social Worker is very much a “calling” for me. When I was a new spouse without a support system, the stresses related to the military were much more than I ever imagined. Now that I am a seasoned spouse who will soon earn her MSW, I really want to be there for the new military members at the best of my abilities.
In the field of social work there many different routes a person can take. Intensive foster care and clinical service is what we will be taking a closer look into. The Intensive Foster Care Program gives thorough child care administrations and situations for kids from earliest stages to age 18, in particular foster homes. Children entering IFC system have commonly been removed from their homes as the aftereffect of a crisis in the natural home, keeping in mind the end goal to guarantee the wellbeing and security of the kid.
I am confident that the skills that I will gain from completing a social work master’s degree will help me collaborate with people in need and aid sustainable growth in their lives. My first introduction to social work as a profession came while living on a small
The quality MSW program offered at Our Lady of the Lake will enable me to conduct research into, and increase my understanding of the diversity this program entails. I know that my adaptive personality will help me to form lasting connections to further build my professional goals. I believe that I my passion, drive, having an open mind and willingness to learn will grant me success as a Social Worker. I am determined to do all that I can to pursue a Master’s degree in Social Work and commit myself to improving the social and personal experiences of family’s, geriatrics, and children. After receiving my degree, I want to find a career in Child Welfare, while also servicing the geriatric
This lack of meticulosity is often caused by the heavy workload placed upon social workers. Overworked and underpaid, many social workers are driven to quit their jobs, leading to the profession’s turnover rate reaching numbers higher than twenty percent. Assuming that a monetary insufficiency is the impediment keeping the current system from paying their social workers enough for their work and, consequently, from being as thorough as possible in where they place these children, my program will have the substantial funding to back these necessities up. My program will also offer services to children aging out of the system so that they can grow to be successful adults rather than end up in the same damaging environments that they are aging out of. Personal advisors and partnerships with workplaces and colleges can make a significant difference in the life of someone who has no one to turn to for guidance or
What is my profession target you inquire? I know I want to help individuals through advocacy and social work. I have many areas in my life where I have dealt with past trauma and traumatic life experiences. I've overcome every one of them with the assistance of God and my family. My capabilities with respect to background are numerous.
I am applying for a place to study social work because I have always wanted to be able to make a difference to people's lives. With social work I believe I can do this in a caring and supportive way. Many of my life experiences have led me to who I am today. The first thing I remember that caught my attention was how my cousin would always stay with my family. He would be spent weeks with at my house without contract with his parents.

Over the semester I have learned many new aspects of social work that have helped deepen my understanding of what social work is really about. This course has taught me things that will help me become a better person and will also help me with my future working with children. Self reflection is a key skill to have when working in social work. We need to understand how we are, and our social location, influence everything we do with social work. My beliefs and values would be beneficial for being a social worker because I have a caring no judgment, personality that allows me to be a neutral and to listen to people.
