Roper Logan And Tierney Model Analysis

Introduction:

This assignment will explore the Roper, Logan and Tierney model used in first clinical placement and will explain how it helped to guide nurses to focus on the fundamentals of patient care. Patient dignity is upheld by using this model following the principles outlined in the Code of Professional Conduct and Ethics for Registered Nurses and Midwives as will be discussed.

Recognising that their knowledge, attitudes and behaviour may be influenced by biological, psychological, sociocultural, environmental and politico-economic factors and respecting their decisions in such. Overcoming and preventing illness to maintain independence is the nurses key focus in delivering patient care which follows the direction of the RLT model of nursing (Roper, Logan and Tierney, 2001).

A recent study by Griffiths (2008) showed the fundamentals of patient care may have been lost and patient focus was diminished. He explained that nursing had become too technical due to the healthcare environmental crisis and the focus was taken away from the fundamentals of patient care. Although the ward on clinical placement was evidently over stretched, the fundamentals of patient care was still upheld due to the regiment implementation of the RLT model of nursing.
