Oskar Schindler was born on April 28, 1908 in Zwittau, Czechoslovakia, which is modern day Czech-Republic. He grew up in a home filled with his parent’s deep Catholic beliefs. The Schindler’s closest neighbors were a Jewish Rabbi family and Oskar became good friends with the two sons. The Schindler family was one of the richest and most noticeable families in all of Czechoslovakia, but when the depression hit, their family became bankrupt. Oskar abused alcohol when he was not working in his father’s farming machine company. It was during this time that he noticed the unfair treatment that the Nazi party was inflicting on the Jewish people. He was furious and wanted to see things change.
