When you are faced with an obstacle in life, it may seem as though there is no solution. However, your approach and attitude towards a situation will ultimately determine your outcome. People are faced with tough obstacles all the time. We all encounter hard times, stress, physical and emotional pain, and disappointment. This is why it is so important to realize that it is not what happens to you in life that matters; it is how you choose to respond. Regardless of your situation, your approach towards resolving it can have a huge impact on the outcome. We all have the power to choose how we handle a situation. You can choose to motivate and empower yourself to push through tough times or you can wallow in self-pity. Picture two sick patients in a hospital room, one teenage girl, and one teenage boy. Upon being told about their terminally ill diseases, both patients react with shock and despair. After having time to process this diagnosis, the female patient begins compiling a bucket list of fun things to do with the time she has left. She also starts to think of ways she can help other people in her situation. Despite her diagnosis, the female patient begins daily exercise and doing anything she can to improve her quality of life with the time she has left. The female patient is not only working towards brightening her own life, but also the lives of the people around her. The male patient does none of this. Contrary to the female patient, the male patient becomes short-tempered, depressed, unresponsive and full of self-pity. He sits in his room and refuses to do anything. Although the outcome for both patients is ultimately death, the female patient is making the most of the time she has
