Picture two sick patients in a hospital room, one teenage girl, and one teenage boy. Upon being told about their terminally ill diseases, both patients react with shock and despair. After having time to process this diagnosis, the female patient begins compiling a bucket list of fun things to do with the time she has left. Although the outcome for both patients is ultimately death, the female patient is making the most of the time she has
“There is no better than adversity. Every defeat, every heartbreak, every loss, contains its own seed, its own lesson on how to improve your performance the next time,” Malcolm X, and activist overcame adversity by learning from his defeat. Adversity affects our world today too. With our harsh rules and drive to be better, one must strive to succeed and overcome the hardships. While there are many qualities needed to overcome adversity, having faith, keeping composure, and receiving support are vital in order to overcome adversity.
Life will be overflowing with challenges but that's to be expected, As everyone experiences some sort of problem or discomfort that might irritate them. That's to be expected but what matters is how people can handle those situations and not repeat their mistakes causing them a more drastic time. Some find their way out of a situation that you never want to be in by making the right decisions and others turn to have a harder challenge. The novel “speak” by Laurie Halse Anderson displays this as a young teen girl, her name Melinda sordino going into her first year of high school and facing many problems and challenges as she is unable to communicate with others about all the horrific things that have happened to her in school and outside of
One of the main recurring themes of the novel is disappointment. The patients attending the residential treatment facility, are repeatedly being disappointed, disappointing those around them, or even disappointing themselves. One of their most common causes of disappointment come from those who love them the most: their families. When coming from their families, feelings are especially magnified, especially disappointment, which can be devastating to a patient’s self esteem. Most kids rely on their parents to love, care and support them unconditionally.
In Margaret Edson’s Wit, the author uses the binary opposition of compassion and austerity. The protagonist, Vivian Bearing, a doctor of English, learns that she has advanced ovarian cancer, and undergoes an experimental chemotherapy program. Her doctor, Jason, and her nurse, Susie, have different views of her mortality, and the author shows their contrasting views in a particular scene. While Susie shows a more compassionate side to Vivian, Jason is very stern with her. Jason faces the inevitable with no hesitation and though Susie can as well, she also comforts Vivian.
Who said that life was easy? Sometimes, -almost all times- life pushes us to the limit and presents itself with many challenges. But what do we do when we are faced with a new challenge? Some people might take challenges as if they were just burdens in life and behave negatively about them, and being negative about them while others might consider them as if they were the way of pushing themselves to the limit. They might seek to transcend themselves and become better persons.

The unsatisfying setting that appears around the ill woman unravels an understanding
Many people are faced with challenging situations each day, but it is up to that person on how he or she will go about facing those challenges. I wish it can be said that each challenge a person face will bring something positive in their life. Challenges may come and go in all shapes, sizes, or colors. A person may feel as if their world is bright as a yellow sun one day and dark gray as a stormy night the next day, and that may be the important turning point when that challenge turn into a crisis. “Crisis occurs when more change or adjustment is required of an individual than he or she is capable of at the time” (Servellen,248).
After the obstacles he has overcame Walt Disney once said “All the adversity I’ve had in my life, all my troubles and obstacles, have strengthened me… You may not realize when it happens, but a kick in the teeth may be the best thing in the world for you.” Everyone has a time in there life where they need to get passed something that is in there way. When this time or times come everyone would find a way to get through it, whether it is asking for help or doing it on their own. When someone says the word adversity one would say you have to be hard working, determined, and strong would pop into their mind.
I realized that I became more focused on the patient’s rather than my own personal gain. Then, one day, it hit me. As we were reading about Henrietta’s treatment as a patient, I was infuriated at the fact that these doctors and scientists weren’t giving Henrietta and her family the treatment, recognition, money, health-care, and equality they deserved. Even though I couldn’t imagine the hardship their family went through, I put my foot into the patient’s shoes. Reading about the pain and poverty Henrietta’s family went through, after her death, I kept thinking that if the doctors treated Henrietta equally, there could’ve been a chance of her survival.
I do believe that every obstacle or disadvantage can turn into something good. Whatever obstacle that is thrown at us we always have to find a way to solve it out, they always may seem like the impossible but everything is fixable. So with that being said, yes every obstacle or disadvantage can turn into something better. Some people say that obstacles like that or having disadvantages can’t turn into something good. They say it makes people even fear more because they are scared and don’t think they have a way out of it.
The poet successfully illustrates the magnitude with which this disease can change its victim’s perspective about things and situations once familiar to

When difficulty occurs, I am more likely to form the judgment on myself. Always ask me a host of questions of “why”. The latest example of my life challenge is when my father last entered the hospital, he suffered a lot of the unbearable pain and I could not do anything for him. I could only stay with him near the bedside. Every night, I could barely sleep.
“Another source of greatness is difficulty. When any work seems to have required immense force and labour to effect it, the idea is grand” -Edmund Burke Obstacles are challenges that make a better version of ourselves, doors that we need to open to achieve greatness and success. These obstacles can range from your school work to the death of a loved one. Everyone faces obstacles and challenges, some overcome them and some get overcome by the obstacles.
