December 7th, 1941 United States soldiers died because of japan's attack Pearl Harbor. On December 7th, 1941 Japan attacked Pearl Harbor a U.S. naval base in Hawaii. 361 planes struck airfields and naval bases in Hawaii (Background Essay). Japan was angry at America for getting in their way. The United States with Franklin D. Roosevelt as president were hoping for only the inevitable war against Germany. Now they were pulled to fight on two fronts, Germany and Japan. What were the reasons Japan attacked the United States at Pearl Harbor in 1941? Japan bombed Pearl Harbor because the U.S. was blocking their way of becoming the new world order leaders, by promising to expand their naval fleets and passing an oil embargo act. Japan had a plan to lead the New World Order, but the United States was in the way. Everyone in Japan new …show more content…
America's oil was keeping Japan's fire alive. Japan was getting 80% of their oil from America (Doc. D). Japan needed oil. Japan new they needed oil and oil was near if only they could take over that country. America was blocking the countries with oil that Japan had a chance of overtaking. The Netherlands East Indies had oil Japan wanted, but it was behind the phillipines controlled by America (Doc. B). Japan needed oil soon otherwise they would run out of oil in a couple of years. Oil controlled almost everything in the country's. Oil supported cars, trains, planes, boats, electricity, and more. Japan could not survive much longer without oil. America passes the act in August 1941 a month before Japan attacked (Doc. C). When they passed the embargo it was the last straw. Japan had already taken so much from the United States this was the last thing before Japan attacked. Hideki finally told his people that “2 years later they will have no oil at all.”(Doc. E). Oil was apart of life, everything around ran on oil and
EXECUTIVE ORDER 9066 Introduction The Japanese were the first immigrants to come across the Pacific Northwest in 1880s. They came here to America because there was a high demand for immigrant work, the amount of money they paid was so low. Time had pass and the Japanese helped construct the Great Northern, Northern Pacific and more. The Japanese were treated horrible due to their appearance; they cannot buy any land.
December 7, 1941 is considered one of the most impactful days in United States’ history: the day Japan bombed Pearl Harbor, Hawaii. Despite their size, Japan left an incredible amount of damage with their 5 submarines and 408 planes. President Roosevelt had been avoiding scuffling with Japan since their pact with Germany and Italy; war with Germany was sure to erupt soon enough. However, soon after the ambuscade, the United States’ declared war on Japan and launched their involvement in World War II. Japan’s leaders recognized the risks of invading one of America’s naval bases; yet they persisted.
90% of all Japanese oil came from America so the Japanese had no choice but to respond.2 FDR provoked Japan into attacking for their very
On Sunday, December 7, 1941, Japanese planes flew into the American Naval base, Pearl Harbor, Hawaii with a surprise attack that heavily damaged and destroyed planes and navy vessel as well as killed over 2,000 servicemen. This attack was a huge surprise for the commanders on base, but many historians do not believe it was much of a shock for President Roosevelt or other important individuals in Washington. Immediately after the attack, Japan declared war on the United States, which also meant that the United States would eventually go to war with Japans ally, Germany, which the President had wanted for many months prior to the attack. President Franklin Roosevelt had previous knowledge of the surprise attack, but withheld it from any generals,
Japan realized that oil was their war machine and without oil the will come to an end by the end of 1941. During summer 1941, the United States stopped oil exports to japan, which kept Japan in pressure. Japan wanted to attack Pearl Harbor to disable the Pacific Fleet, to avoid the United States from taking any powerful movements in the Pacific for some time so they can secure the oil in the Dutch East Indies. Also, Japan thought the war would be over before United States
December 7th is a day that will live in infamy for all Americans, a day once filled with death, destruction, and desolation. On December 7th1941 a huge fleet of Japanese fighters, bombers, ships, and submarines converged and attacked the United States Navy at Pearl Harbor, resulting in the destruction or damage of 19 US Navy ships, damage or destruction of 347 planes, as well as the death of 2471 Sailors, and many more injured. At first it seemed there was no reason for Japan’s attack but after many years the United States figured out why they did what they did. There were at least three reasons why the Japanese attacked Pearl Harbor; these include: the many United States embargos towards Japan, the rapidly growing U.S. fleet, and extreme Japanese
In a letter from the U.S. Ambassador in Japan to the Secretary of State, the U.S Ambassador mentions notably the poor internal economic and financial situation of Japan along with the unsuccessful attempts to obtain loans from England, France, and Holland. The Ambassador also mentions the steady increase of stress in the Government and the mention of a hot-headed military that doesn't want to face the horrible facts (Doc H). Due to the fact that the U.S. Ambassador is in Japan his point of view on Japan’s situation is first hand and can see the effects of the deprivement of resources Japan is going through. In past history many countries had taken an imperialist mindset and when in the need for resources they would take over other countries for their resources. So keeping in mind the United States power, Japan’s want for the same power, and Japan’s “hotheaded military”, Japan’s attack on Pearl Harbor could have been to take resources from the U.S. as well as weaken them for possibly taking their power.
December 7, 1941 will forever be a date people remember. People will remember the event that caused terror throughout the country and ultimately resulted in the U.S. entrance into World War II. This date signifies the Japanese attack on Pearl Harbor in Hawaii. Pearl Harbor is located on the southern end of Oahu, and it held a 22,000 acre naval base. This attack was meant to be a surprise.
“Several weeks later, the United States expanded its trade embargo to include iron ore, copper, and brass, deliberately leaving oil as the remaining bargaining chip in the ongoing tension between the two nations, for it was the commodity Japan most needed to sustain its war against China” (Emory Shi 1203). After cutting Japan off from resources that were necessary for their success, protection during WWII, and industrialization, the U.S. realized that Japan got most of its materials from the U.S. These resources were significant to them since they were an island involved in World War 2; getting these materials was difficult, even impossible without trade. This prompted the U.S. to trade again knowing that Japan would come running back to America with money. Traded for natural resources was money which slightly helped resolve issues that came as a result of the Great
Rahul Bagga Mr.Campbell US History, Period 0 16 December 2015 Why did Japan attack Pearl Harbor? One day that will always be remembered by America is the date of December 7, 1941, which changed American history forever. December 7, 1941 was the day the Japanese warplanes attacked Pearl Harbor (Hawaii) which stationed many of American ships and airfields. Immediately after the bombings, United States President Franklin Roosevelt declared war on Japan, leading to a direct involvement into World War ll. Japan had many reason to do so but Japan attacked Pearl harbor for three reasons which were that they had a plan for a new world order, United States were expanding their number of naval ships rapidly, and an oil embargo was placed upon Japan
The attack also led to a shift in the world's view of the United States. Before the attack, the U.S. was seen as a distant power that was not fully engaged in the war, but after the attack, the U.S. was seen as a powerful and determined player in the war effort. The attack also led to increased support for the U.S. among the Allied powers and a stronger resolve among the American people to support the war effort. Additionally, the attack on Pearl Harbor was a crucial event that led the United States to actively joining WW2. In the aftermath of the attack, the United States declared war on Japan the following day, and on December 11, Germany and Italy declared war on the United States.
Japan wanted to expand more and keep on attacking more people, while the U.S. had a different view on expansionism. The U.S. did not support Japan in their expanding, leading to Japan fearing of losing strength and power. These are the reasons that Japan attacked Pearl Harbor on December 7th,
Although the attack was a complete surprise, the United States had had tension with Japan for decades. The United States hated how the Japanese had been treating the people in China. Japan declared war on China because they thought the only way to help their economy was to gain territory from China their neighbor. Next the U.S stopped selling oil to Japan. Although the U.S. was not close with Japan, no one expected Japan to bomb the U.S. After the attacking Roosevelt asked congress to declare war on Japan.
Noubar Aghajanian Dr. Jeffrey History 18 29 June 2017 Discussion Forum (DF # 3) Pearl Harbor The attack on Pearl Harbor on December 7th, 1941 was a surprise because US was still talking to Japan and the two countries were in diplomatic relations. Two waves of planes attacked, destroyed 188 planes, killed more than 2,403 people and left chaos. After that the Japanese planes attacked the American facilities in the Philippines (World War II, 15) .
The United States and Japan fought in World War II during 1941 to 1945. Japan planned to expand their land and gain resources- which led them to invade China whom was an ally of the U.S. In result, the United States cut off the supply of oil to Japan. On December 7th 1941, Japan’s air force did a surprise attack on Pearl Harbor because that is where their military base is located.
