Civil War The year was 1861 and the first battle had already begun. The country was now divided as two teams, the confederates and the unions. I wasn’t looking forward to the upcoming battle that was about to happen. I sat in my tent in silence, thinking about what might happen. Starting to feel uneasy about this battle I grabbed my rifle for comfort. It felt weird that I look at my gun as a safe object. I laid back and sighed. I let my guard down for too long, I needed to get it up again. In just a few minutes, I know my long hard day will start soon. This day will be especially rough in order to prepare for the battle. I got up and peeked out of my tent, just to see a beautiful orange and pink sunrise. All of the soldiers were starting …show more content…
I was still half asleep and I missed having a simple cup of coffee You. never realize how much you take for granted until it all gets taken away. I was still adjusting to not having all of my belongings and my regular schedule. Such as no sleep because of all the horrific thoughts going through my mind, at first I wasn’t sure if that was normal but apparently it is. The day went by surprisingly quickly. I did long tiring drills while standing in the hot sun. The more I thought and dreaded the battle, the faster it came. Before I realized, I was standing in the front lines ready to fire away. However, before I blindly shot at my enemies, something painful stopped me. It was all a blur. Next thing I know I feel a sharp pain in my arm. I collapse and land head first. My breathing became hard and heavy. My eyes felt like they couldn’t stay up on their own. Everything was blurry and I couldn’t focus on one subject. I just needed to make the pain stop. I closed my eyes slowly. Blackness. “Life’s hard being a soldier, ain’t ?” I woke up to the sound of a scruffy voice asking me a question. My head throbbed and it was painful to open my eyelids. I inhaled and immediately started coughing. Ouch, even my chest hurts. I groaned and felt how dry and scratchy my throat felt. “Hey man, there’s a full cup of water right next to
The soldiers tried to repress or even split away from the memory of whatever traumatic thing
“I felt brave all of a sudden. Yeah, maybe it was just a stupid fight. Or maybe it was the most important moment of my life. Maybe I was telling the world that I was no longer a human target.” (page:65)
The coldness woke me up. My toes felt numb from the frigid December air and my body ached. I was in my studies, passed out after working on a few homicide cases that ultimately linked back to one guy. I sat up right, yawned, and stretched my arms out as wide as I could, knocking a few of my Archie’s Comics off the shelf and to the wooden floor. I’ll pick that up later.
The men described hours of waiting and crawling along trenches. When the firing began, one can only pray that nobody got hit.
Then, this soldier wrapped his arms around my bony waist and dragged me out of my bed like I was a feather. But he did it gently, he didn’t hurt me. On his uniform I noticed that Sergeant Jansen was neatly inscribed across his heart. He didn’t make eye contact with me once,
It finally stops and I can feel my leg aching, we both see a cave, the entrance covered with vines. We crawl in. I peek through and see the Japanese taking another way down, we go deeper into the cave. We hear the enemy passing by, we’re completely silent for an hour. Clutching our guns close to ourselves.
The start of the civil war is a historical event. The civil war began in South Carolina’s Charleston Bay when Confederates open fired on Union’s Fort Sumter. The open fire lasted 34 hours, the next day U.S Major Robert Anderson surrendered the poorly supported fort. This was the start of the four bloodiest years in American history. The Civil War started through the conflict of freeing slaves in 1858.By 1860 the majority of slave states were threatening secessions if the Republicans won the Presidential election.
December 2nd, 1944 - Belgium Forest 'The Battle of the Bulge ' I awoke to the deafening sound of gun fire in the distance, "Just another day," I said, I looked around to watch if anyone was there. " Mornin ' sunshine" said the Sergeant, "You 're on watch duty today, hope you don 't plan on going anywhere," He joked. I watched as the Sergeant began to wake the rest of the company. I quickly hurried, trying to find my gear, I grabbed my gun and rushed out of the fox hole. "Hey Sarge," I said, "wheres the watch tower you found yesterday?"
William stared at the men on horseback behind James. Gone were the overalls and homemade cotton or hemp shirts. All the men wore black Kevlar vests and tactical gear that William had purchased and stashed in the cider mill armory. “Let’s go,” William said. William led the men off the estate and down Route 5.
"When he started towards us it was almost like everything went into tight focus, - When he made his move, my whole body just tensed up. - All my senses were directed forward at the man running at us with a gun. - I didn 't hear a thing, not one thing. - All I know is the next thing I knew I was standing on two feet looking down at the guy. I don 't know how I got there.
But yes, you may.” I wanted to run to Ginnie Wade, and Olivia Anne to tell them that I wasn’t to little to help, but I felt like it would be too rude and disrespectful. The next day I was then taking the men water and food. I liked to tell a little joke, or story to make the men smile. They were not happy to be there.
I was debilitated and startled, and the creeping realisation that we would never make it out of here, was slowly making it’s way to the front of our thoughts.. That night I had been sleeping in a burrow around three hours when I woke up feeling something gnawing my hip. I put my hand down and my fingers shut on a major rodent. It had snacked through my haversack, my tunic and creased kilt to get at my substance. With a cry of repulsiveness I tossed it from me. I’d thrown the rat to the side, when we once more; came under heavy artillery fire, I saw my friends being tossed around like ragdolls as their bodies were torn apart by shrapnel.
1865, a year before now, I returned from the civil war. Upon return we came home to discover millions and millions of cattle. I was not foolish to miss this window of opportunities, and was then a cowboy. My war brothers and I hired brushpoppers, and soon had around 2,000 cattle and were ready to travel north 460 miles, Brownsville to Abilene. The first day gave me a bad impression, when the cattle got spooked into a stampede.
There were flares and mortar rounds, and the stink was everywhere- it was inside him, in his lungs- and he could no longer tolerate it”(149). Since the war the soldiers get flashbacks of different scenarios all the time. It takes a toll on how they think and the trauma, guilt, and grief they felt in that
I wake up one morning with sweat dripping down my forehead and i 'm breathing very heavily. My dad comes in the room because of how scared I was. He asks me “what 's wrong?” I say “I had a dream that I was in a coma from getting hit so hard and everyone was around me crying.” I get to school and i 'm around all of my friends
