Eagerness to learn, attention to details, and willingness to put in required effort and time, all qualities I wish to continue to practice as a student in AP English 12. As a student of organization and willingness to participate in classroom discussions and interactions, I believe those attributes of me as a student set me up for success in this class. My enthusiasm in learning has been a leading factor in my decision to apply for this rigorous course my senior year. While there are other options available this is the course best suited for me due to my attention to details and readiness to dedicate time and effort into this class. As an AP English student I am mainly interested in continuing to practice and develop reading and writing skills …show more content…
Through this class, I want to further analyze poetry and works of fictional literature and develop more stills in doing so in order to better prepare me for college reading expectations. My strengths as a high school student include my personality qualities, approachability, and inclusion in sports. Throughout my time at Stratford I have quickly adapted to the pace of this institution by joining several clubs and academically driven societies. Out of the classroom I am participating in a sport I had not done for quite a while. I value having a balanced schedule and not giving too much time to out-of-school activities while also having time to form connections outside of the classroom. As a student in general I sometimes struggle with fully articulating my opinions in a pressurizing situation. As a student of literature, I always have my required assignments done before the due date and class period in which they are due to always stay on top of assignments. My weaknesses in this subject include my rebuilding of a background when it comes to usage of the passive voice, as some might even have been included in these responses. Overall, I hope this application proves that I am serious when it comes to my dedication to this course and anticipation of …show more content…
Fleming would hopefully say that I have a foundation that is solid and a work ethic fit for AP / college-level classes. Though I struggle with issues such as passive voice and not fully articulating the words and details I intend to write, I continue to strive towards fixing those issues with help. I believe that Mrs. Fleming would say I belong in AP 12 as I continuously attempt to participate in class discussions and engagements with others about class material. During class, I serve as an addition rather than a disruption as I kept side conversations to a minimum and commit energy to complete assignments thoroughly. I complete assignments all of the time to be prepared for discussions about the material during the class period. Preparation, completion, and understanding of the material are important to me as it has a direct impact on my grades. My grades are something that has always been important to me as I began to apply pressure on myself about them at an early age. Mrs. Fleming would hopefully say I would be a solid addition to an AP 12
My freshman year of high school was difficult for me to adjust to and I did not perform to the best of my ability on my biology honors midterm. Due to this discrepancy, I was unable to be accepted into the Science Honor Society in junior year. Although disappointed that a singular grade had the ability to decide a part of my future two years later, I continued to work hard, especially in my science courses. Junior year, I decided to challenge myself and take an AP Physics course, even though I had never taken a physics course prior. This class was excruciatingly demanding and a new experience for someone who had never taken an AP class before.
Also, Driscoll argues that “[a]n average grade in an advanced course is more meaningful than an ‘A in a regular course” especially when supported by favorable SAT and ACT test scores. Despite this fact, Driscoll discusses the importance of forming valuable relationships with teachers, involving oneself in one’s community, and the ability to “write - and write well” when applying to colleges. Emily Driscoll has an accurate perspective about what must be done. Average Performance in testing and in challenging courses, along with significant involvement within a community, heightens one’s chances of getting accepted to a desired college. College applicants with proficient scoring in testing and in advanced courses tend to have higher chances of getting accepted.
Dear AP Student, Congratulations for signing up for this class. Let me personally welcome you to what will be one of the most fun yet difficult English classes of Regis Jesuit you may experience. You have just opened up a world of exciting literature, rigorous studies, and very little sleep. However, if you can get the hang of this course (that will no doubt teach you the basic skills you need to know for any kind of writing), you WILL go far in life. One major component of “AP English Language and Composition” is actually getting down to the nitty-gritty, to actually write a… composition.
An issue that could arise is a major adjustment in my study habits. Currently, my study habits may not be disciplined enough to achieve the grades I desire on a college level. Although this awakening might be harsh, it would force me to develop proper habits, preparing me for college two years in advance. Although the preparation that the Ohio State Academy would grant me is a strong reason to attend, the primary reason for my application is its intrinsic value. Although my high school offers a solid catalog of AP or CCP courses, the classes offered do not allow me to further my education in my fields of interest.
When assignments and test/quiz material became available, I always kept note of the work and began preparing my study material and practiced. Once finished with the assignment, I would go back several times and reread it and compare it to the grading rubric. This presents my personal perfectionism and concern to the task at hand. (warrant) My biggest downfall this semester would be my lack of vocal participation within the classroom.
Also, I am taking AP Statistics, Computer Science 3, AP Computer Science Principles, and hopefully Prosper Career Independent Study. These endorsement classes help boost my confidence about how I am going to survive in college and the real world with actual jobs. These classes enhance my knowledge of computer science, which is the main field I wish to pursue. Next, Prosper ISD needs its graduates to seek opportunities and challenges in learning. I apply to this particular standard because I am taking various AP classes, all of which prove to be a huge burden, but I take these classes because I love challenging myself and pushing through them.
Mihika Garg Ms.Panes English 1A, P4 22 May 2023 Script Although English 1A was just a little part of my high school journey, I believe that it had a prominent impact on my abilities and on me as a student overall. I discovered my love for reading and writing again. I never genuinely liked writing before but after this English class my writing skills have grown and I have found how expressing yourself with words can be so valuable. From reading, I learned lessons that I may have never learned unless I had experienced them.
My goal is to get a B in that class and I am very confident I can achieve that. 3. I think I should be able to handle the workload this semester well. It’s pretty much what I was expecting when I decide to attend college. 4.
In the 1950’s the intentions of AP classes were to benefit students. These rigorous classes were meant to give student’s college level work and exams to better prepare them. While also gaining college credits to save money. However, over the course of time the purpose of AP classes have changed and failed. In particular, many colleges do not accept AP courses as college credit and students are required to repeat the course at college, an honors class is seen as more useful in the long run, students do not get credit for the class if they do not pass the exam, some state that the work is not like college work at all, and it causes students to be stressed.
I want to enroll in Pre-AP English because I think it could help me in several of ways. This can help attain my goals because it helps me receive a higher gpa. I plan to contribute to Maricopa High School community by joining student council, if I join student council I would be involved in more things and can help at any events, I am committed to go above and beyond and I am self-motivated to do anything necessary. Skills that I have that are essential for advanced placement include someone who will try their best every day, someone who will go above and beyond in completing their assignments and are respectful and responsible.
English 102 Reflection During the course of English 102, I took this year of the spring semester. I have accomplished a variety of goals I once thought were impossible. I have not only grown as a writer and a student but as an individual as well. I feel that through my experience of this English course, I have achieved knowledge and self-confidence to step out into the real world.
My journey in this English 3001 course during the past ten weeks, and over the course of taking is English class I have grown and learned more that I thought it is necessary for me to know as a student. I have improved in my overall writing skills because if you look at my second in-class essay and the rest of my essay you will see that I have made progress and improvement compare to my diagnostic essay and the first in-class essay. Moreover, now that I have completed the English course my skills are better that I am capable to meet the university standard writing requirements. This English course additionally taught me how powerful the composed word and language can be. This quarter my ability to compose essays and express my thoughts, ideas,
There was no doubt in my mind that I tried my hardest in the classes; I just did not have as much faith in myself when it came to the test day. In AP U.S. History, I did my homework religiously every weekend on Sunday afternoons by delving into each chapter as much as possible and enjoying what I was reading. For AP Language and Composition by creating a word wall in my room in order to improve my vocabulary. All the weekends spent doing homework and more for these classes paid off in a way I never would have imagined. I finally was able to believe my hard work towards achieving a goal could actually be rewarded.
1. What was your attitude to the subject of composition before this course? Did you enter into the course with certain notions about writing and your ability to compose? Before I had entered this subject of composition, my attitude was positive knowing that this subject was going to be challenging.
