Ashley Newberry LCSW, LISW
As I child, I was introduced to the human service field in a unique way. For as long as I can remember, my mother has had a human service profession and provided me with daily examples of how to help others. One of my earliest memories is riding out a hurricane while we stayed in the adult group home where my mother worked, assisting with safety measures for residents and providing comfort to her community. My mother worked in multiple residential programs throughout my life, specializing her work with individuals with developmental and physical disabilities. She continued her work throughout my childhood, allowing me to have firsthand interactions with

I completed my Bachelor and Master of Social Work program at Northern Kentucky University. I used this education to begin a clinical practice serving children and adolescents in the community. I specialized my work in trauma focused care throughout my years as a social worker. At this point in my career, I have received an independent clinical license in six states and have directed multiple types of programs. I have always had a passion towards expanding my understanding of clinical practice and evolving my own practice. I feel the next step to better myself as a clinician, enhance my work as a leader and improve my ability to teach other would be best evolved through the DSW program. I have addressed and support individuals through all types of trauma, heard countless trauma narratives and provided crisis intervention on all levels of care. I hope to advance my education at the University of Kentucky due to the experience and esteem of the trauma care from this organization. I completed my TF-CBT training and countless other CEUs to better clinical practice from this organization. I have supported individual and family care through the UK CATS clinic throughout my career. My future focus in practice will be aimed towards better identifying and implementing nurturing environments to better serve the individuals that have been effected by trauma. I hope to use this education to better the individual, families and communities that are affected by trauma. I have learned through my experience that a nurturing environment can prevent trauma, while also being the best support for trauma processing. I have watched clients struggling to survive thrive from the nurturing environment from one person. I want to implement this practice in all levels of care to better help our community. By increasing my clinical experience and leadership skills at the University of Kentucky, I feel this DSW program will aid me in this
Rhonda’s notable service left a positive impact on many lives through her diligent work as a social worker and educator. Her honesty and integrity was demonstrated in all areas of her life. Rhonda’s greatest joy in life was spending time with her family and playing with her grandkids. She valued time spent working in her garden, and quiet moments with her husband.
All interactions within the service provider organization must ensure that the client is always engaged in the recovery process and not being re-traumatized by negative interactions or insensitive communication (Elliot, Bjelejac, Fallot, Markoff, and Reed, 2005). You should never use a technique that will cause your client more harm than good. References Elliott, D. E., Bjelajac, P., Fallot, R. D., Markoff, L. S., & Reed, B. G. (2005). Upon completing this program I plan to work with individuals seeking support, guidance, and personal growth. To fortify this work, I intend to attain clinical licensure. Although social work practices can ameliorate client troubles, I would also like the ability to find possible solutions within diagnoses, further evaluation, and treatment. Utilizing the Advanced Clinical Practice concentration offered in this program will allow me to become familiar with working in clinical settings and apply my coursework knowledge to real work situations. A crucial piece I look for when entering an academic program or workplace is the ability to create real, tangible change.
Identifying myself as a professional representative for those who require access to social work services is imperative to my field. The competency of my knowledge with the NASW core values and guiding principles will help me preserve the social work reputation and will give confidence to the public in our abilities to provide services in the many areas of this diverse profession. Investing my time in developing professional expertise through continuing educations, seminars, and conventions will help me build up myself as a specialist. Similarly, reading new information in social work practices and keeping inform of government programs will help me expand my knowledge in order to provide proficient services. As a result, other specialists
During my field placements at the Boone County Department of Health and Human Recourses (DHHR) in my foundation level and the Davis Child Shelter currently in my advance level, I believe I have had a great idea of what the social worker profession is, understanding ethics, and working with populations who live in Appalachia. With both of my field placements, I see both sides of social worker, the “demander,” child protective services, and the “supplier,” Davis Child Shelter. Being able to experience both sides of this field, I have also worked with a wide range of different races, ages, sexual orientations, ethnicities, religions, mentally under developed, etc. Looking back at my field placement at the Davis Child Shelter, I have really enjoyed
My 295 experience has provided me with exceptional experiences that I can apply in any work setting. My internship during my first year of the MSW program was at the Transitional Community Opportunities for Recovery & Engagement (TCORE) while my second year placement was at the UC Davis Medical Center in the department of Clinical Social Services. I believe that my 295 experience during the MSW program has helped me grow as a social worker. I would rate my clinical (direct) practice training as average. In my opinion, my field placements provided me with some clinical practice training, but not compared to other placements.
As a Certified Medical Assistant, I have worked to nurture my career in an array of clinical settings. I believe that this Master’s program will hone my skills of communication and interpersonal connections whilst allowing me to harness my compassion to all, openness to change, and cooperativeness with others. As someone who didn’t originally think that the mental health field was my calling, 2nd: Since graduating with my undergraduate degree, I have been working on an ambulance as an EMT. This position has shown me the significance of the mental health field in our community, especially in communities where there are barriers limiting access to mental health resources. I have especially seen a need for mental health resources for adolescent individuals who believe that they are individually struggling with mental health

This child kept crying even after they nurses gave them medicine for pain. The nurses were concerned about the child always crying and called the social worker to come talk to the parents about the situations. I have tested my interest at Gateway Children’s Advocacy Center under Diane Rodgers. I loved volunteering at Gateway, it’s showing me the bad and the good side of social work. Gateway also helped point me in the direction of where I want to go in the social work
