To begin with, I am against whale captivity. I will be telling you three thing and then how I feel about them. So I hope you are ready to listen. LET 'S GO!!!! So we all know or have heard of seaworld, but when we go there and have fun we never think about how harmful it is to the killer whales and their trainers working with them. Text why Blackfish is propaganda not a documentary. I believe that seaworld she not be able to have killer whales in a little pool. They also shouldn’t use them for a show because they are a wild animal so they belong in the open ad free not eating on diet while in seaworld and stuff like that. In the film it implies that seaworld collects the calves from the moms and then they get their mom but they never
When the two sides come together, the argument boils down to one major point, should we “Free Willy?” Those who side with the whales, whether their reasons be emotional or defended with welfare standards, feel that the whales should be released back into the wild or into private coves3. The opposing side makes valid arguments against the release of the currently captive whales. Currently captive whales were either removed from the wild at a young age, albeit in a cruel way, or they were bred in captivity11. The point in discussing this issue is not to address the cruelty of taking an animal from the wild, or to argue whether or not breeding programs are successful or appropriate.
As if removing these animals from their natural environment was not enough, these killer whales which have an understandably predatory nature been vilified in the public for unfortunate incident which have taking place at different aquariums throughout the world. Gruesome accidents and tragic deaths demonstrate the fact that wild animals do not belong in captivity. They are maligned for these actions which are simply part of their feral nature. These wolves of the sea deserve to be flipping as close to nature as possible. They should be migrating and hunting with large family pods instead of sitting alone in comparably small tanks.
The only whales that should be kept in captivity are injured whales; whales that would never make it on their own. There are some rare instances when they need humans to survive. “Springer was an immature and sickly killer whale who lost her pod in 2002 and began to associate with humans in Puget Sound near Vancouver” (“What to do about a killer whale”). Springer was “nursed back to health and returned to the wild quickly” (“What to do about a killer whale”). If a whale needs help, then humans should do everything they can to get them healthy again and nothing more.
This article is full of reasons why orcas should not be a seaworld. It gives examples about how it is damaging to their health to be there. This article was written to compare and contrast the health of an orca living in the wild, and an orca at seaworld. This article has given me a lot of information to put in my essay. "Save Orcas."
I believe that SeaWorld should close down because, animals are kept in captivity which is harmful to the orcas. True SeaWorld is a wonderful place to visit, it’s a great place to go and get entertained, but what you might not know is that it is hurting the animals. Keeping the orcas in tanks and cages is very dangerous because when they are let out, their could be very dangerous and can be very grumpy and aggressive. The truth is that the orcas are taken from the pod from the wild and are brought to the SeaWorld. Therefore, when they arrive at SeaWorld, they are expected to make friends with other orcas and become a pod.
The first reason why I think should not be in captivity is of what happens in their tank. The first piece of evidence from the PETA practical “Aquariums and Marine Parks” is that since the tanks for the orcas are usually small for them, they get insane because of the echolocation they use. This makes me think that since their fin sometimes curves, that they would get injured while swimming. In addition, this might make the whale die faster than what they are supposed to live to. Other people might say it might non’t affect it
Do you remember that day that you and your family took a trip to that one park? That one that you got to see many different types of sea animals, dolphins putting on shows, and getting to even interact with the sea animals in a great learning experience. That park is SeaWorld. When you were there, you might have not noticed the stuff that was happening behind the scenes. Lately, the animals have been very sad and not living healthy lives.
Over the years there has been controversies with the way SeaWorld treat the animals and the type of behaviors animals portray as a result of its enclosures. SeaWorld's defense of capturing
Director, writer, and producer, Gabriella Cowperthwaite, in her documentary, Blackfish, describes the shameless hunting and treatment of killer whales. Cowperthwaite’s purpose is to persuade us into opening our eyes to the reality of what we are doing to killer whales by confining them in captivity. She invents an emotionally wrenching tone in order to transmit to the adult viewers that living in captivity may not be acceptable life for the whales. The film effectively showed that the whales should not be kept in captivity by giving the audience examples of their signs of aggression and displays of emotion. Cowperthwaite begins her documentary by showing how killer whales can become barbaric when held captive.
Furthermore, this can be the cause of all the incidence including to what happened to Dawn Brancheau who was completely mutilated by a whale. Despite the interview with a former trainer, from a document which was published after the release of Blackfish by SeaWorld to object
Since then, SeaWorld no longer takes orcas from the sea, because they have enough whales at SeaWorld to birth their own. This just adds to the fact that SeaWorld is
This film about these extremely diverse mammals shows true footage of the whales and what they are capable of in captivity. It also talks about a lot of wrongs that are done to the whales in captivity by people who were there and done it or witnessed it themselves. The film gives out a lot of good information and statistics that have been proven by others as well. Because this source focuses on captivity and the poor treatment of whales, as will my paper, It will come to great use when the time comes to use
The target audience of this documentary is the general public that includes a big emphasis on the customers of SeaWorld. The filmmakers are trying to inform the public of the inhumane treatment and the conditions that the orcas face while at amusements parks such as SeaWorld. As described in the film, orcas are seen as intellectual animals that are aware of their surroundings. Because of their intellect, orcas don’t belong in a place SeaWorld and should be released.
Andre Cole Ricardo Acosta G. English 101 September 22, 2015 Do Killer Whales Actually Belong in Captivity? Ever since wild animals such as Killer Whales have been captured and kept in theme parks and zoos as amusement, there have been issues on whether they should or shouldn’t be kept in captivity. Killer Whales, otherwise commonly referred to as Orcas, have regularly been taken away from the sea at a very young age so they can be trained, raised and kept in theme parks for exhibition. Although theme parks no longer capture whales from the wild, they are still bred in captivity for public display at marine parks such as Sea World (Gorman).
Being held captive leads animals to have abnormal behaviors that unfortunately can lead to the deaths of people. Although zoos and sea-parks claim they are all about educating the public and conservation we know its
