library. There was potential for things to become dire if there was no swift response made. I take pride in the fact that I possibly saved the school some repair cost or even lives. This all leads to the biggest influence the book had on me as a professional. It influenced me to continue to be alert and aware of everything that is going on in the vicinity. Although I work in a facility that is equipped with high tech devices that can detect when there are problems, I will continue to take the initiative and ensure there are not variables that can cause problems. There are numerous times throughout the week where the system bugs and there are false alarms for minor problems. The book influenced me to take the initiative to check and ensure that …show more content…
Although this fire has had a huge influence on progression, by this time it was too late. The horrors from the event have since been a piece of American history. Preparing for the worst is the only way to ensure safety. If you do what needs to be done to prevent catastrophes from occurring there will be no need for reform. Constantly upgrading current protocols and enhancing current technology helps keep the public safe. Let us not wait until there is another catastrophe before we take action on things that can cause problems. Let us take action now to eliminate the chances of such an event reoccurring in the future. This is how I would use the message of book in a management environment. It should not take the loss of innocent lives for us to reform. Reform is something that should be continuous and should evolve as times do to ensure the safety of the …show more content…
This was mostly in part by the perspective he provides of families looking for their loved ones. In other instances where I have read or heard of the Triangle fire there is not much information provided on the victims and their families. They usually scratch the surface on the causes of the fire and the results of reform following the fire. Not much is provided on those directly effected by the fire itself. Drehle immediately engulfs you in the environment shortly after the Triangle fire. He eloquently depicts how hectic and emotional misery lane was. Revealing how relatives were forced to identify the charred bodies of their loved ones. How they were forced to inspect all the bodies just to find the smallest strand of evidence to identify their loved ones. This draws you into the book and keeps you hooked
Imagine going to a library to go find a book to read that wasn't there." Ray Bradbury the writer of "Fehrenheit 451" wrote this book about firemen to saving live but destroying them. Children around the world not getting to read and learn for entertainment because these firemen burn these books and maybe people. Set in a dystopian world long ago there was a boy who had a feeling that he wanted to write a book, and he called this book, Fahrenheit 451. Because this book has "quality of information, leisure to digest, and the right to carry out action," Fahrenheit 451 is a memorable book and should not be passed by any reader.
Though there are countless wonders in this book, some areas could still use some work. For instance, right after Mackenzie’s daughter dies, the description goes downhill for a while and the intensity just drops, leaving the reader struggling to continue. After a chapter of this dull writing, Young picks up his description and storytelling once again. After reading this horrific story of a man losing his daughter, it seems to me, difficult to find a way to connect to the events and
I feel that I now have a greater understanding of how the world works and how civilizations function. Using this knowledge, I can apply it to smaller groups rather than the whole world. It can help you understand people on the micro level and people on the macro level. Overall, this book was a great read and I am glad I chose it as my deep book.
The Progressive Reform Movement Many Historians have different views on how history events occurred. The Progressive Reform movement is a common event historians talk about. Historians have had conflict about who the progressives were, who they represented, and who the reformers envisioned. A few historians who have given their opinion on the Progressive Reform Movement are George mowry, Joseph Huthmacher, and Robert Wiebe.
The book I am reading is called Fahrenheit 451 and it is a Science Fiction novel by the infamous author Ray Bradbury. This novel is set in a picture “perfect” parlor family world in the 1950s and is supposed to be a dystopian future where everything seems fine and perfect but it isn’t. It is supposed to seem like a utopian future but that idea is clearly discarded due to the fact that firemen do not put out fires anymore instead they burn books. The reason they burn books is because they cause ideas that could be happy but they could also be violent or rage a person so books are burned to “save” Mankind. The Main character is an employee or firefighter of the fire department named Guy Montag and he is a very curious and complex character that
The goals of progressive reforms were limiting the power of large companies, political reform, reducing poverty and reducing the social inequality. Progressive reforms rejected the idea of Social Darwinism and appealed for compulsory education, better housing, higher wages, works laws protecting childhood from exploitation. Reforms were not only coping against the urban machines, the spoil system and trusts like the standard oil, but were also claiming for more government intervention to solve social and economic
He is very blunt in his writing, getting straight to the point, but still giving as much needed specific detail. With this method, the reader is able to see how the characters mature as the story progresses, giving detail to their thoughts and actions without dragging things on for too
The Progressive reformers were a group a people who sought to improve the overall standing of the United States through reformation. The Progressive group was made up of mostly college educated, middle class people born in the United States. Due to the middle class being such a big group of people, not all the Progressive reformers believed in the same issues. The main belief of the Progressive reformers was that the foundation for this group was that they all believed that the government must be involved with trying to solve the issues within American Society.
I enjoyed reading this novel because it’s about a woman, Frances Ann Benedetto, who was abused, physically, emotionally and sexually, by her husband, Bobby Benedetto. This book is about her struggle of fleeing with her 10-year-old son, Robert Anthony Benedetto, who knows nothing of this abuse because his parents always tell him that her injuries are accidents. It also gives you a fitting example of how domestic abuse impacts you and the people around you. I chose this book because when I read the back I was intrigued as to what would happen to Fran and Robert.
Anyway, basically Louise is a young, married woman with a frail heart. Her sister tells her that her husband is reported to have been in a fatal accident. First she grieves, and then she goes to her room. She finds that she’s feeling comfortable, free. She’s celebrating his death in the sense that it has unlocked her freedom.
The novel tells a story of an unnamed man and his son in who struggle to survive in this horrific environment. I feel that the language in the novel is verbose. McCarthy is blunt in his descriptions. He uses repeated struggles and similar scenes forcing the reader to share the tough experience of the characters. I agree with the author that The Road is the picture of a post-apocalyptic world.
In Charles Kernaghan’s video titled, “Triangle Shirtwaist Fire: The Race to the Bottom”, he tells of the horrific events of the Triangle Shirtwaist Fire that occurred in New York in 1911. Kernaghan tells the story of the fire that resulted in the deaths of 146 people, mostly young women, because the main door was blocked by the fire and the fire exit was locked to prevent workers from sneaking out, stealing, or letting in union organizers (00:00:23-00:0:51). The outrage over the murder of these 146 workers was so great that 100,000 people marched in the funeral procession and another 400,000 lined the streets with the plea of, “Who was going to protect the working girl?” (00:01:24-00:01:41). The people of New York recognized the wrong doing
#1 Young Goodman Brown’s journey symbolizes his eye-opening of what the real world is. He realizes that the people he knew weren’t the people he once knew. At first, something that may strike a reader is the devil saying to the catechism teacher, “Then Goody Cloyse knows her old friend(80).” first showing that some aren’t who he thinks.
One theme that occurs in the novel, The Road, is death. There are many different perspectives of death throughout the novel and it comes in numerous forms. The Man sees death almost as a threat. It is the one thing that could stands between him and his son. Love is what motivates him to persevere through the relentless, life threatening conditions.
The writing described the deaths and the Grievers very well to give you a hint of how it felt in the Glade. My overall response to the book is it was very interesting and even-paced. It was very interesting, giving you a cliff hanger at the very end of the book. The story has an amazing plot that isn’t too fast or too slow. All the events blend very well together.
