Physical education is a process aimed at improving human performance through physical activities associated with the acquisition and refinement of motor skills, development and maintenance of optimal health and fitness to good condition, acquire knowledge, and develop positive attitudes toward physical activity. In discussions of athletes, a controversial issue is why certain athletes are able to receive athletic scholarships compared to others, why schools are not funding athletics enough money to supply these student athletes with essentials while they travel from place to place, and the limited amount of educational options. You would think that students with high academics and grade point averages would be offered a scholarship that is too suitable to refuse rather than those who go to school, do no work, and just depend on playing sport(s) to help them further their career. Well, this is the complete opposite. Student athletes that actually want to get an education and work hard at their sport(s) are overlooked by those who are just athletic, which is highly unfair.

A personal opinion from one of my former high school teammates one hundred percent agrees with this topic, that high school athletes who are passionate about their sport should join a club or AAU team. She also agrees that high school sports are dying due to coaches, athletic directors, and families willing to put in money for their athlete to play. According to the APTA website, physical therapists are not allowed to diagnose a disease in the state of Texas (2016). As a physical therapist practicing in the state of Texas, before a patient is seen for physical therapy, a diagnosis has already been established. Physical therapists then checks on a patient’s chart for the medical diagnosis and pertinent history, perform an evaluation and then develop a treatment plan. What I identify as a physical therapist is, if there is muscle weakness, pain, balance deficits etc which is referred to as treatment diagnoses. Now that doesn’t mean that we are exempt in thoroughly checking a patient’s medical history since it can affect rehabilitation potential and intervention.
