Tragedy Brought Them Together Since tragedy causes agony to one’s emotional and physical health, having family through the process therefore can help mend the soul back to upright health. Family has been an influence in my life when there are trials and tribulations. During these bumps in the road, I wouldn’t have been in suitable mind without my family. These relationships that we form with one another will build a solid foundation for present and future events. Throughout this march Elie is reminded of how important his father is to him in this situation. When either Elie or his father would sit down in the snow to rest, one of them would be there to encourage him not to sit, that sitting would lead to death (Wiesel 89). During the night they came across a shed, without this encouragement of keeping each other awake they would have died due to sleeping and not keeping watch over one another (Wiesel 90). I tend to compare relationships with people to physical possessions. Physical possessions such as the books, book bags, and even the crowning of a tooth can be hard to lose; however, the loss of a love one can lead to insanity. An instance of insanity that I noticed in the book was the Rabbi searching for his son. The Rabbi and his son had been inseparable for three years until the night of the march. Elie describes the scene in where he takes note never to abandon his father the way the son left the Rabbi. Elie would never want to feel “a burden that could diminish his own chance for survival”
