Leaders and Heroes during the Revolutionary war
“We must all hang together, or assuredly we shall all hang separately”. said Benjamin Franklin during the Revolutionary War. These words like many other words during this rough period of time, helped the patriots obtain independence from Great Britain. This was the war allowing the United States of America to become a country. America was able to beat the British because of many heroes and leaders. Three such heroes and leaders were: Nancy Hart, William Prescott, Debra Sampson. Nancy Hart was a hero in the Revolutionary war. One time in 1780 six British soldiers were chasing a certain Whig leader, but the redoats

William Prescott knew that the British were coming so he led minutemen troops to Breads Hill where most of the battle happened. (Bobrick 32)There he built trenches and breastworks which are chest-high fortifications made out of dirt, wood, and any other materials at hand. It was here, where William Prescott said, “Do not fire until you see the whites of their eyes” (colonel william prescott) The reason William Prescott said these words here, was because they had limited ammunition, and their muskets would be more accurate at close range.(Janelle Pavao) On June 16, 1775, in Boston, Massachusetts, Americans suffered over 400 casualties, and more than 1,000 British soldiers were killed or wounded. In the end Patriots lost the Battle of Bunker Hill, but gained England’s respect. Even though the Patriots lost, they realized that with dedication they could overcome the British military. On October 25, 1781, the author states, “A mob surrounded it, broke the shutters and the glass of the windows and were coming in, non forlorn women here.” here shows how the mob reacted to Cornwallis’s surrender of Yorktown, which is the last and most important battle of the war. The author further on states, “Warm Whigs of one side and Hartleys of the other, rendered it impossible for us to escape that way.” shows how the Patriots on one side were attacking the Loyalists and were treated even worse than the people inside the house. When the mob left their house, the author describes the scene, “In short it was the most alarming scene I ever remember.
The colonists fired the first shot of the revolutionary war. Multiple sources say that the colonists shot and then hid behind stone walls and that right as the British were approaching the colonists shot. The colonists fired the first shot and then proceeded to hide behind stone walls. The London Gazette (Doc 8) says, “several guns were fired upon the arrival of the king 's troop from behind a stone wall.”
In June of 1775, 2,400 British soldiers met 1,600 militia members at Breed 's Hill. While the battle took place at Breed 's Hill, it 's famously called the Battle of Bunker Hill. In the middle of the night the militia members quietly set up at at Breed 's Hill. This forced the British to battle uphill. While it seems like the colonists had all the advantages, they ended up losing because they were extremely low on ammunition.
When the soldiers came down the hill to retreat, general Howe ordered them right back up. The same result was on their second charge, but on their third charge the patriots ran low on gunpowder and musket balls and were forced to retreat. The battle was (at the time) considered a British victory, but as time went on the Americans started considering it an American win. This was because of the enormous amount of losses that the British suffered. It could have been considered a British victory because the British did conquer the hill.
VI. In conclusion, the Battle of Bunker Hill was a battle that changed American History. Although Britain won the battle, it proved to the American soldiers that they could hold their own against the well trained British troops, while putting concerns in the hearts of the British who thought the Americans would be more easily defeated. This early battle in America’s fight for independence, led the way to an American victory in the Revolutionary War.
After the battle of Lexington, the British soldiers meet up and head to Concord, five miles to the west to seize arms and capture any rebels (Fradin). Starting the second battle of the Revolutionary War. The first battle of the American Revolution left a win for the British, but also a great loss of many soldiers’

Robert E. Lee Robert E. Lee has always been thought by many as a god-like figure. To others he was a contradiction. Born on January 19, 1807 at Stratford, Virginia, Robert E. Lee was the fourth child of Revolutionary War hero, Henry "Light Horse Harry" Lee, and Ann Hill Carter Lee. Raised mostly by his mother, Robert learned patience, control, and discipline from her. As a young man, he was exposed to Christianity and accepted its faith.
An Autobiography of an Infamous traitor: Benedict Arnold Benjamin Franklin once said “We must all hang together, or assuredly we shall all hang separately. ”(ushistory.org) He said this during the American Revolution when the Founders were preparing to rebel during the First Continental Congress meeting. This was important, because the Colonists who won our independence, were planning the revolts that began the American Revolution. The American Revolution wasn’t all about snazzy quotes and cool names though.
The American Revolution was a war between the American colonies and Great Britain, in which the American colonies won their independence from great Britain. Gaining their independence from Britain was not as easy as it might have sounded. People in America were strongly independent and wanted to do things for themselves, but Great Britain had different plans for the them. The rules that were inflicted upon the Americans evoked many factors that were responsible for the American Revolution. The British government used ways to coerce the Americans.
It’s been over 200 years since the original thirteen colonies of America fought their revolutionary war against Great Britain, in hopes of achieving their independence. We shall be going through a few areas of the Revolution, such as the military, social hierarchy, the role of men and women during the war, the colonists’ values of equality and their social contract response to the British government’s abuses, and we’ll compare these areas to the present day. The American Revolution started around April of 1775, when British redcoats and American militiamen exchanged gunshots in Lexington and Concord in Massachusetts. However, that was only the beginning of the fighting; the reasons for the war date from years prior, when resistance from the
Even after losing the battle, American forces gained confidence to become stronger. The battle of Bunker Hill provided encouragement for the colonists and helped Americans gain independence. It helped the colonists send a clear message to the British that they were able to stand tall and strengthen their colonies to fight for their freedom. This battle was a very significant event in the Revolutionary War and had a direct affect on the outcome of the war and our history.
However, in 1775, there was the American Revolution, which was started by the American people to obtain their independence because the British had increased taxes in the thirteen North America colonies. From this moment, rights of women were modified. That is why today, this war is called the war of American independence. According to the “American Revolution history” website, the conflict was between the North American colonies and the British Crown, which was represented by the colonial government. Furthermore, and according to Annette Gordon –Reed, the “American Revolution is a picture of the people who can create the Republic”, which is means that Americans fought for their freedom and independence for eight long years.
The United States won its independence for Great Britain during the Revolutionary War. America struggled to get the advantage, but eventually was able to win the war. In the beginning it proved difficult to even acquire the troops necessary to fight a war. The troops they got had no adeptness for fighting. They struggled throughout the war and at times their chances for success looked bleak.
In 1775, the American colonies won the Revolutionary war against Great Britain. The war resulted in America’s independence from Britain and contributed to major fundamental changes in American history. The Americans had a number of advantages that helped them win the war against Britain, however they also faced tremendous difficulty prior to winning the war. To begin, the Americans were outnumbered against a professional, fully equipped army of 50,000 British troops. Unlike the British army, the American army consisted of 20,000 inexperienced troops and faced desperate shortages of firearm, uniforms, and food.
