Romeo and Juliet is a very iconic play with various themes. In this classic play, themes are developed from the beginning of the play all the way to the end of the play; two of these themes are Death and Suicide and Impulsiveness vs. Moderation. All the way from Act I to Act V these themes are represented through characters and the character actions. Although there is dozens of themes to be found in this play, as there is in any type of literature, these two have been expressed through multiple characters and interact together through the entirety of the play. Themes or central ideas are important to any play to help understand the reading and the characters. The theme of Death and Suicide displays itself throughout the journey of the storyline. From the very beginning of the play this theme was shown through the character Juliet. In the beginning of the play Juliet says, “ Go ask his name - If he be married, My grave is like to be my wedding bed” (Act I, Scene V, Line 146). This excerpt shows that Death is a very authentic theme because Juliet is saying she is going to die if Romeo is married. Another theme which was shown from the beginning is Impulsiveness vs. Moderation, this theme was mainly represented through the character Romeo, since it is one of his many characteristics. As these themes overlap and interact, the reader sees into the character 's personality and get a better understanding of the characters.
