In the summer of 1692, a few people were accused of being witches. Those people lived in Salem, Massachusetts, and is known as the Puritans. The Puritans were also known as the Protestant Christians because those people came to New England to practice Christianity. They were not satisfied with their church in England, thinking that the churches were not pure. To be a Protestant Christian, you must believe what the bible said, the bible was god’s spoken words. In the bible the Devil was talked about, saying that the devil is real. The devil was known to be smart and to enter a person's body and turn them into a witch. This is what those people believed, that is part of their religion. There has been many theories on the Salem Witch Trial, the ones I think most likely cause is Salem Witch Trial Hysteria is Religion, Lying, and the Power of Suggestion. In the 17th century, religion was a big thing for them. If you do anything bad, when you die, you are not going to heaven. Back then, it was a big thing and a huge deal. The Puritans took the bible very seriously. Their law is based on the bible. If the bible said something is wrong and you should be killed, you will be killed, no matter of your …show more content…

When the girls threw fits and told the reverend that Tituba, Sarah Good, and Sarah Osborn were witches and tried to possess her, that is how lying began. These three women were sent to jail and only Tituba survived. Tituba lied and said that there are more witches in the town, and lied again by pointing out a few more innocent people in Salem. The lies got deeper and deeper, and everyone started to accuse people. The witch trials have stopped until the governor’s wife was accused. The girls probably kept lying because they thought that it is fun and the adults believed their lies. Seeing more and more people die from the lies, the girls still did not notice and realized the trouble they
