Push, by Sapphire/Ramona Lofton, is a very powerful novel about an abused illiterate girl who goes by the name Precious. When reading the book you will be reading it through the eyes of this 16 year old girl, who doesn’t know how it feels to be loved. She lives in a small apartment in Harlem, New York with her abusive mother for 16 years. Precious wrote things that happens in her life[SR1] to cope with her feelings. She was sexually abused by both her mother and father until she was 16. She ended up getting pregnant by her abusive father at the age of 12 as well as age 16. She had a little girl named Mongo that was mentally challenged[SR2] and a son named Abdul that was dark like she was[SR3] . A person should look at that child as a piece of gold; as another life that is taking a breath. This story shows how cruel a person can be. You see how evil a mother can be to her only daughter. The mother lets a man take advantage of a sweet, innocent child just to keep him in her life. Why, would any person do this? A child has a purpose in this world and that is not to be abused or to be miss treated by anyone. It should only take one person to help a child in need. We should all put our best foot forward to make sure they are taken care of. I think the system fails children because they don't have a voice. Contrary to popular belief they do. In this story she has a noisy neighbor that lives next door to her for 16 years. She was there when the girl had her first baby by her father as well as the second one. If this neighbor would have spoken up for the young girl, I don’t think she would have went through so much torcher in her life. Why don't people see them for who they are? They are also people with feelings and emotions. Her mother used her up like she was a dirty wash cloth and she wasn’t worth
