Both Sarah and Julia go through different hardships that are difficult and frightening. Many obstacles were presented in their path that could have stopped them if they had not had the will to push through. Sarah’s goal was to make it to her brother and in her mind, once she found him everything would be okay. Unfortunately the war, the camps, and the distance prevented her from finding him soon enough. Sarah beat all the odds and escaped the camp and found a loving couple to take her to her old home, to fulfill the promise she had made to brother. Her answers were obtained, because of her persistence, even if there was a horrific end. Julia’s goal intertwined with Sarah’s story, because she wanted to find out about Sarah and uncover the truth
Not knowing much about Julia they began seeing each other opposing the Party's knowledge. Julia at first presents herself to be well mannered, well behaved, and caring about her society. After reading the book, Julia has been characterized very differently from our first thoughts. We learn that,
In the camp there was an eleven year old girl named Rachel, who Sarah later on becomes good friends with. Rachel had a burning desire to escape and was able to convince Sarah to tag along. They both were able to safely escape with the help of one French policeman. The third most important event that occurred was when Sarah and Rachel came upon a farmhouse with an old couple living there. The man had offered to help the two girls, but they were both terrified, contemplating whether or not they could trust this old man.

Sarah’s Key is a story told in the early 1940s from two different perspectives. One is from a ten year old girl who begins to live an unforgettable harsh life. The other is a middle aged mother who tries to learn more about that life and wants to understand what she was going through during that time. The title has a very touchable meaning and relates to the story in a miraculous way.
Julia is a 16 year old girl who goes through a traumatic event and has to sort out what happened to her by herself. She and her friend, Liv, were running as practice for track which resulted in her being alone in the woods for two days. Now out of the woods, she had to find out why what occurred happened to her. Julia does not just find herself in the woods for two days for nothing. When running, her friend, Liv, gets pinned down by a man she does not know.
Julia does truly love Winston. Throughout the work of the novel, she is drawn to Winston even though he is around 10-15 years older than she is; this is because she is drawn to his rebellious personality. “It was something in your face. I thought I’d take a chance.” She also shows her love by her carefully planned recklessness; she does the best she can to make sure their relationship stays a secret so that they won’t be caught and separated.
When African Americans were first brought to the United States, they brought the tradition of griots with them. They were the so-called keepers of history and storytellers who recounted the events and narratives of their people. When the Africans were taken from their homes and shipped off to America, they were stripped of their cultural literacies; they were not allowed to read or write in their native languages. Africans in America derived new ways to communicate and understand their new surroundings. African Americans were introduced to Christianity by their slave masters and were given Bibles.

Cathy Ames has been criticized because she is completely evil. It has expressed throughout the novel that Cathy is inhuman. She has no emotion, no feelings, and no good in her. Many state that she is a symbol for Satan or a witch, who is pawn of Satan. People go so far in declaring that she is one of these evil spirits because even from birth she was filled with extreme evil and darkness, lacking characteristic that make up a human.
Her family begins to get torn apart and she loses many friendships. She begins to notice the changes her family, her friends, and also herself. Julia is a shy girl who can’t stand up for herself. In chapter 5 she is getting bullied, but doesn’t do anything about it. “Without Hanna, I felt awkward being standing alone at the curb.”
The Mirabal sisters, also known as La Mariposas, have been known throughout the Dominican Republic for participating in a major revolution against their unjust ruler, Rafael Trujillo. After years of the sisters’ hard-work, along with the others who were involved in the revolution, their work paid off when Trujillo's regime ended with his assassination. However, in order for them to have taken part in this act against Trujillo, the Mirabal sisters had to sacrifice several things from their lives, most importantly, their freedom and their relationship with their family. Many people believe that these sacrifices were not necessary because the sisters didn’t need to go to the extent where the end result would be them orphaning their children. Nonetheless,
She weeps for the his death; but deeply inside she believes that he still alive . She manages to escape again but this time alone with a little help of a servant by breaking a narrow entrance through the wall and sneaking out during the night. This time, the Marquis and the Duke are too late to catch her. They spend the rest of the novel trying to catch Julia but in vain. Julia has to flee from a place to another to avoid capture.
