The outcome of a badly tainted police department, a sequence of disappearing children, and a gruesome discovery on a small farm during the prohibition era lead the city of Wineville to change its name to Mira Loma on November 1, 1930, due to negative publicity surrounding the murders being a huge factor. Unbeknownst to anyone until September, 1928 The Los Angeles Police Department’s lack of competence consequently condemned the lives of those missing children. During the course of three years between 1926 and 1928 a sequence of child disappearances was on the rise revolving the Los Angeles and Riverside counties. On March 10, 1928 in Lincoln Heights, California the disappearance of nine year old Walter Collins evoked the city that remained …show more content…
However due to errors in the extradition paperwork, they were not returned to Los Angeles until November 30, 1928. During the time period awaiting extradition back to California, Sarah Louise Northcott confessed to the murders, including nine year old Walter Collins. Prior to being extradited to California, Sarah Northcott retracted her statement, as did Gordon Northcott, who had confessed to killing more than five boys. Once Sarah Louise Northcott and her son, Gordon Northcott, were extradited from Canada to California, Sarah Louise Northcott, once again, pled guilty to killing Walter Collins. There was no trial. Upon her plea of guilty, Superior Court Judge Morton sentenced her to life imprisonment on December 31, 1928, sparing her the death penalty because she was a woman. Sarah Louise Northcott served her sentence at Tehachapi State Prison, with a parole that followed after fewer than 12 years. Mrs. Northcott claimed her son was innocent and made a variety of bizarre claims about his parentage, including that he was an illegitimate son by an English nobleman, that she was Gordon's grandmother, and that he was the result of incest between her husband, George Cyrus Northcott, and their daughter. She also stated that as a child, Gordon was sexually abused by the entire family. Sarah Louise Northcott died in

As such, in trying to get to the rot cause of the murder, the Los Angeles Police ended up questioning an approximated six hundred Chicano youths. The female black widow eats her male counterpart after mating and Lavinia Fisher is her own version of the infamous black widow spider. Legend has it she is the first female serial killer in history; her and her husband both locked away in the crummy, dark old city jail located right here in Charleston. Some believe she was convicted of murder but her execution was necessary. The notorious case of Lavinia Fisher, and the rundown jail where her spirit is said to still reside, interest me because of its deep seeded mystery and its effect on Charlestonians and tourist alike.

The year is 1960. Heroic Ponyboy Curtis and Johnny Cade rescued five school children from a burning building. Many were interested in their story, but none got a chance to talk to them personally. In Ponyboy’s opinion, “They asked too many questions too fast, and got me mixed up. If you want to know the truth, I wasn’t really feeling real good in the first place.

Although sentenced to 25 years he served less than 15 years before being released.

Another small percent may have been murdered or died in an accident, and no one was around to witness or report their death. There 's also an amount who just disappeared with no logical evidence to be brought up. But why disappearances you may ask. Actually no one asks that

Three hours later the officer called for backup to break into the house. When they held up the ‘warrant’ Mapp took the paper from them and stuffed it in her dress, later being handcuffed for being hostile.
Monkey Beach is an adaptation of “Queen of the North,” both written by Eden Robinson. The texts both touch on the theme of intergenerational trauma within Indigenous communities. Through the lens of different main characters, however, Monkey Beach approaches the topic differently through its portrayal of the transmission of trauma. In “Queen of the North,” the transmission of intergenerational trauma is most clearly seen through Josh reenacting trauma onto Adelaine. In contrast, as a novel, Monkey Beach offers a more nuanced depiction of the methods of intergenerational trauma transmission, such as the loss of Lisamarie's cultural identity.

Human Rights!” Just the thought of this controversial subject immediately brings images and discussions to mind of topics such as sweatshops, equality, segregation, racism, sexism, human trafficking, and many others surrounding anything that involves or is inherently equal in all human beings.
