What comes to mind when we think of addiction? Drugs, because we have been taught to connect addiction with drug abuse. In a hospital they see addiction every day. It 's crazy, how many kinds of addiction exist. It would be too predictable if it was just alcohol, drugs and cigarettes. We can be addicted to so much more than that, we can be addicted to people. Most things start out as just a normal part of our lives and at some point become obsessive and out of control. It is just as hard to walk away from another person as it is to drop the needle. The letting go part of a relationship, is the hardest part. We have all these wonderful times with this one person just to wake up one day to them not loving us anymore. Most people can’t handle that. Once we get love from the person that we love, we never want to believe it could go away. So people warn us about drugs. In school we have red ribbon week, DARE, and health classes reminding us everyday how bad drugs are. At home we have parents preaching at us to never fall into peer pressure because we could mess up our entire lives in just one night. Our whole lives we are warned to never do drugs, to never become an addict. We are prepared for all of the “bad” that comes with the whole drug thing. It seems like it’s all anyone ever talks about when we’re growing up, to stay away from stuff that can ruin us. Everyone always forgets that there are other things in life that have the potential to ruin. So we are never prepared for a person to be the thing that makes us an addict.
