We all know that school uniform is a special kind of clothing that is worn by all the students, group or an organization. One school might require white button-down shirts and ties for boys, pleated skirts for girls and blazers adorned with the school logo for all. Another school may simply require that all shirts have collars. On our generation today, this may not be the favorite ingredients outfit of a teenager. We may prefer to wear clothing that will make us feel more attractive. Outfits such as baggy, holes on clothes, visible undergarments, strapless, low cut necklines, tights, leggings, swim suits, piercings, dog collars, tongue rings, tattoos. But this should not let us throw away the idea of wearing a school uniform. Do not …show more content…
Even some of us students admit that wearing the same colors everyday makes it easier to shop for new clothes. And, safety for all of us to avoid from bad boys especially outside the school. This is an advantage on the reason that all of us dress the same, whether rich or poor. Costs are lower for middle and upper income families, there is a potential hardship for poor families. It is well worth it for the school system to provide uniforms to such families. The uniforms are guaranteed to be used, so poor kids get better clothing and costs are lowered overall. Another is it wouldn’t offend the low class families and let high class families bully them. This is really a helpful way to save money. We would not anymore need to buy and buy new clothes for preparing what to wear for the next days. Without school uniform policies, our parents may feel pressure to compete with other families by purchasing fashionable clothes for us. Also, our parents would be contented on our safety of their regarding to what we are wearing everyday. Our parents need not to worry about our safety. It is easier to move wearing a school uniform safely than wearing vulgar
While the school administration argues that the dress code brings school unity, they are wrong because it takes away a sense of individuality from each student (Logos, concede). In today’s society, people use fashion and their daily outfits as a key way to express themselves. Students are constantly told throughout their school careers that they should demonstrates what makes them “different”, yet uniforms deny that sense of self-expression. According to Grace Chen of the Public School Review, uniforms may result in students turning to “other avenues of self-expression that may be viewed as even more inappropriate than clothing” (Ethos, professional credibility). This includes a nontraditional hairstyle, make up, or acting out towards authority at school or at home.
Some parents and people think when we give them uniforms it takes away their freedom of expression and restricts them from showing who they are. This is wrong. They can still express themselves in many ways, such as: wearing unique tennis shoes, styling their hair however they want, mix and matching the uniform pieces, wearing fun jewellery, etc. They can also wear the fun clothing outside of school, whenever they want. Uniforms make it so everyone looks together and one, so no one gets better or worse treatment for what they wear.
I agree with these students and I wouldn’t want to be forced to wear a uniform either. To begin, parents don’t want to pay the extra money for a school uniform. It’s extremely expensive and the student 's parents have to buy even more appliances on top of that. Let’s weigh the pros and cons of school uniforms states, “The cost of uniforms is prohibitive, especially when a family includes more than one school-aged child.”
In the first place, people with lower incomes may have trouble buying school uniforms. In the manual on school uniforms, it says, “ The cost of purchasing a school uniform may be a burden on some families.” It is unfair for people with low incomes to pay for extra clothes. Without dress codes, families wouldn’t
The effect on this is that kids will either want to come to school. Another reason is because students will be nervous for school everyday. That why students should not wear uniform. In conclusion uniforms is a bad idea. Another reason students should not wear uniform is because students parents might struggle for paying for uniform and and the kids might feel uncomfortable wearing uniform.
School uniforms are a tradition across the world that limits people freedom. School uniforms are uniforms that students have wear to school for many reasons. They are specify used for maintaining the schools dress code which is strict and has to been worn for appropriateness. School uniform aren 't just for kids, they are also for collage students and more like religious schools. Some schools now call school uniforms modern since they I have been around for centuries.
And it does not raise test scores which leads me to my next reason why we should not wear uniforms. My second reason is that is does not stop bullying kids get bullied over what they are clothes people think that it will help but it wont. Everyone will be wearing the same clothes but if we wear uniforms kids from other schools would bully them from there. It does not help test scores and does not help grades.
Envision waking up every morning to put on the same outfit and walk out the door, stress free. People would not have to worry about what fits, or what is fashionable at the time. Schools would not have to worry about inappropriate clothing but at the same time, that clothing may be a way for a student to express himself. Many schools view uniforms as a solution to several problems, but many schools view uniforms as a lack of self expression. School uniforms should continue, even though children may not get to express themselves, because they prohibit violence, provide cheaper lifestyles, and promote better education.
There are three major positions on this issue. The first position is that student dress codes are necessary to produce a safe and productive environment for students, which will facilitate high achievement. The second position goes even farther, and says that dress codes should mandate uniforms for all students, claiming that the uniforms will make students focus more while removing concerns about fashion differences that would otherwise harm their self-esteem. Last, there is the position that school uniforms are unnecessary, and that they pose an unfair cost burden to families and restrict students' constitutional rights to free expression. Each side has some evidence in its favor, but ultimately the lack of hard statistics on costs and grading effects from dress codes make it apparent that more research is necessary to figure out what position has the best support for
School uniforms give students a sense of unity because they feel like they can fit in without fear of being too different. Making a dress uniform mandatory will decrease sexual harassment, create more interesting humans and make schools safer. A school uniform would make schools safer. The idea of wearing uniforms to schools was originally introduced to reduce violence in schools in 1996 by the Department of Education (Underwood, 1).
Many students that know uniforms will be beneficially, but don’t agree with school uniforms will continue to disagree with implementing them. It can be easily agreed that school uniforms may take away their self-expression in school, but what matters more in school is the way of learning. It can also be agreed that many students do not accept the self-expression of their classmates and make fun of them. Students, parents, and school administration should be able to recognize the benefits that school uniforms come with.
It actually has a lot of benefits like reducing distractions, reducing peer pressure or bullying, saving money, and enhancing school pride. At first glance, fashion might seem to have very little to do with learning, but as the saying goes, the clothes makes the student. Mandatory uniform policy has made a distinct difference in many schools. School uniforms will keep students focused on their education, not their clothes. According to A bulletin published by the National Association of Secondary School Principals stated that "When all students are wearing the same outfit, they are less concerned about how they look and how they fit in with their peers; thus, they can concentrate on their schoolwork".
In the article of Dr. Alan Hilfer from 2009, “Disadvantages of a School Uniform Policy” stated that “We need free thinking children of to become thinkers of tomorrow, not droned who will continue making the mistakes of previous generations”(Hilfer, 2009). Feelings on school uniforms seem to differ as much as the reasons for having them, hate it, or love it. Recent studies done in the University of Alabama states that: “Student Uniform use was not significantly correlated with any of the school commitment variables. In addition, students wearing uniforms did not appear to have any significantly different academic performance” (Brunsma & Rockquemore, 1998). The problem whether schools should still be continuously implemented is a highly debatable topic.
According to an online article entitled 5 Reasons Why Wearing A Proper Uniform is Important (2015), the use of uniforms, can unite everyone regardless of social status which creates a feeling of oneness among those following the dress code. In this statement, we will objectify social status as the students belonging to different organizations in the college, as defined by their course. When a student enters a classroom and observes the blending in of the various program groups, as identified by their respective shirts, the student will feel the idea of living together in harmony. Not only that, an article entitled School Dress Code Pros and Cons List (2015), expresses how students will be able to concentrate better and see each other more as equals. Conflicts will be avoided because of the friendly interaction that these groups have among each other, and also, disparities will be reduced because students will see other students on the same level as them, thus building a social balance funded by equality.
School uniforms pro or con, this controversial subject has been going on for a while arguing it takes away students' self of expression or whether it helps establish a better learning environment. Which one truly is the best option for the future of our students and which one can truly maximize their potential for a better learning environment as well as the safety for them when they go to school, these thoughts are key points in when discussing the argument over school uniforms Starting with the pro side, school uniforms themselves have many upsides to them such as eliminating visible economical differences, which can be very helpful to diminishing bullying that is caused by a person's social/economic status, another upside would include the prevention of gangs forming because of how school uniforms would eradicate gangs being able to represent themselves via clothing. Eradicating gang association amongst the school grounds can definitely lead to a safer and better learning environment for the students knowing that they'll be safe when coming to school.
