A general consensus among believers is that the Bible is the inspired word of God, and it is the final authority in their life, yet they differ in matters of faith and practice. Why? The differences lie in their interpretation of the Holy Scriptures. This is the reason for the many denominations and abominations within Christendom. Every denomination believes that theirs is the correct interpretation of the Scriptures. It was never God’s intention that we all read the same Bible and come away with different ideas of His word. The Bible is not a piece of abstract art where everyone weighs in his/her opinion as to what the painter was trying to convey. God’s word is absolute truth and every Scriptural passage has only one intended meaning,
I enjoyed very much all the good points mentioned in your discussion board regarding the Bible. I do believe that, it is important to learn the history, meaning and behind God’s plan for the Bible in our regular day lives. In the meantime, I would like to highlight the fact that, nevertheless, the Bible is all God’s Word, but, it is also good, in order to better appreciate, that Christians study other scriptures such as Old and New Testament, Gospel, the Psalms, Proverbs, Wisdom, and so forth. There are differences about the scriptures, for example, the Bible describes God’s word to us, whereas the psalms, are prayers written to God as poetry is set to music. As stated in 2 Timothy 3:16-17, “All Scripture is breathed out by God and profitable
1. How does a person know whether or not the books of the biblical canon are authoritative? Based on the lectures from Units 1 and 2 and reading, give evidence that bolsters the “authority” of the Bible for the Christian. There are a number ways to demonstrate this point from Scripture.
When talking about the bible it is not important to reach the conclusion on the conversation it is important to start the conversation. Interpretation of the bible needs to be an open mind. Some people are going to think differently of the bible than you; but you have to keep an open mind because there is no right or wrong answer. You also have to forget what everyone else is telling you about the bible to be able to have your view and interpret what you think of it with the opinion of other people. The bible does not only have one view and as Brueggemann states, “The Bible requires human interpretation which is inescapably subjective.”
I have heard many brothers of the Lord’s church hold to this interpretation as true. My beliefs do not follow this
The Bible is an extensive and challenging book that differs from all of the other books. It consists of several scriptures, that are very different in the scope, purpose and content. Therefore we must read them in a different way compared to the rest of the literature. 2. The Bible was put together in thousands of years.
Interpretation is what our faith is based on because people do use the bible
King James Version Bible. England. William Tyndale. Robert Barker. 1611.
The New Testament highlights several Scripture reading concerning false practicing and beliefs in certain religions such as: (Matt.7:15-16, 24:11, Matt. 24:5; 24; Mark 13:22, 2 Cor.11:4, 2 Cor.11:13-15, Ga.1:8, EVS). These Scriptures are much valued, because God did not want His people deceived theologically and academically concerning His promise for His people. Therefore, the author Ron Rhodes writes, The viewpoint of those who hold to historic, evangelical Christianity, a “cult is any religious movement that claims to be derived from the Bible and/or the Christian faith, and that advocates beliefs that differ so significant with major Christian doctrines that two consequences follow: (1) The movement cannot legitimately be considered a
What I found to be amazing was the diversity of beliefs among persons claiming to follow the same deity. If you place the Holy Bible on a table and invite members of the abovementioned denominations to discuss various issues, you will never attain full concordance. So if this is the 'Word of God', why is it not straightforward, but open to so many different interpretations, resulting in division, acrimony, bigotry, a sense of entitlement, intolerance, human-rights abuses and even war?
The Bible is so detailed that every person has a different view for every
According to their different genres, they can be roughly divided into four categories. The main idea of the Bible is to emphasize the covenant relationship between God and man: When people keep the covenant, they are been blessed; if not, they will be punished. Such a theme ideology has laid an overall aesthetic direction for the "Bible".
Most, if not all, of the major religions have each own’s Scriptures. Buddhists have Tipitaka, Muslims have Qur'an, Jews have Torah, Hindus have Vedas, and Christians have Bible. Christianity is the largest religion ranked by size; therefore without any doubt, its Scripture, the Bible, is read by many (Adherents). Christianity believes and affirms its Scripture to be god-inspired, but Bible had been modified by human actions numerous times throughout history. The Bible is divided into two major categories: The Old Testament and the New Testament.
According to statistics the Holy Bible has been read by more people than any other book in the world. Therefore, the fact that it was often misused is not surprising. The Holy Bible wasn’t written only for people who work in ministry, it was written for every believer, for every follower of Jesus Christ. This should encourage us to approach Scripture with given respect, trying to understand it trough God's intended meaning, rather than by enforcing our own will on it to make it fit our beliefs.
Although some places of worship have altered it of late, Vacation Bible School (VBS) is usually a week-long camp for kids. Some churches host kids during the day, others only in the evening hours. However, typically, the event lasts around three to five days. VBS is super fun for kids because it combines learning about the Bible with songs, crafts, food and more. VBS is used as a community outreach tool by most churches to encourage additional memberships and serve the surrounding area.
As we shall see in the fourth chapter, God's tone changes in relation with the events that affect the lives of His people. Catastrophic events, such as the fall of Jerusalem are explained by way of showing that it is disbelief that has led to God forsaking the Israelites, basically to punish them. Nevertheless, this is not the wish of God. His ultimate wish is that the people understand their mistakes, and put an end to actions that are against His wishes. In the end, we see that it is mostly impossible to distinguish history from religion within the Bible, in as much as religion was not a separate concept in the 1st millenium
