Should students wear school uniforms? This topic has been brought up many times in America and other countries around the world. School uniforms do not stop bullying, instead on the other hand many increase violent attacks. Research by Tony Volk, PhD, Associate Professor at Brock University, stated, “School uniforms increase the average number of assaults by about 14 per year in the most violent schools.” Well if this is true, would you want your child or students to wear uniforms? If parents want their kids to be safe and schools don’t want a inadequate name, then students shouldn’t wear uniforms. Students shouldn’t wear uniforms because it will only cause the student themselves, schools, and their family problems. From uniforms violating a student’s freedom, to giving the school a inadequate name, to it not curbing crime rates or improving attendance, there are many negative effects of students wearing uniforms. To begin with, students shouldn’t wear uniforms because it violates a student’s right for freedom. For example, quoting, “https://www.greatschools.org/gk/articles/school-uniforms/” by Marian Wilde, “School uniforms violate a student’s right to freedom of expression...makes a target for bullies from other schools, are difficult to enforce in public schools, and are a financial burden for poor families.” This means that some families aren’t able to afford the school uniforms.
