The Old Cathedral is a Roman Catholic Church that contains many artifacts. The Cathedral is one of the grandest in the world. It is significant to St. Louis because it is the first Cathedral West of the Mississippi River, so before 1816 it was the only church of any denomination that was for local settlers. The church is the beginning of Catholicism in the Colonial West (Basilica of St. Louis).
The Old Cathedral was completed in 1834, and its architects are Morton and Laveill. They created this building to have a Greek Revival and Neo Classical style. The building is Greek Revival by its doric columns and tower, while it is Neo Classical from its windows (Basilica of St. Louis).
Finally, I included this location because I have never seen the inside or outside of the Old Cathedral. Furthermore, because it was the first location we visited it was

St. Louis Public Library has won the prestigious American Institute of Architects Honor award for its transformation. Furthermore this buildings adds to St. Louis’ rich architectural heritage, which is why it is know as the Rome of the West. The St. Louis Public Library is also significant to St. Louis because people are allowed to quietly study, or borrow books this library (Murvosh) (St. Louis American).
The library allows natural light to be poured into this building. There are three sides that the light pours in from, which represent the enlightenment from the books. Cannon Design has recently renovated the Public Library’s interior. However, the original architect of this building is Cass Gilbert. The exterior of this building is Beaux Arts, Romanesque, and Greek Revival. It is Beaux Arts because of its size, grand stairway, and symmetrical facade. It is also Romanesque because of its round windows, and it is Greek Revival because of its arches

Do you ever just stop and think about the architectures that surround you every day? Maybe about how they were made, or what the inspiration was behind building them? People are often not aware of how the buildings came to be, they just care that it is there now. When you stop to think about the historical descriptions of how the buildings were made, you start to realize why the construction of these buildings are the way they are. Men like Vanderbilt, Carnegie, and Rockefeller constructed these structures to serve a purpose for others around them.
My collection is the adult reference section in Crozet public library in Virginia. I choose the subsection in which call numbers fall between 000-7XX, covering Dewey decimal classes: Generalities, Philosophy and Psychology, Religion, Social Science, Language, Natural Science and Mathematics, Technology (Applied Sciences), and Arts, totally about 400 titles. Crozet was used to be a small village where most residents were farmers. Since it is close to Charlottesville, a beautiful city and with low unemployment rate, and also the place where University of Virginia is located, it is attracting more and more people moving to this village, including professionals, UVA students, and retired people from northern Virginia. Crozet public library is a

Charlemagne was a conqueror and founder of the Roman church. Known as “Charles the Great”, who was a marvelously, magnificent ruler, he conquered massive land in Europe during AD 742. Charlemagne was a talented, terrific, tremendous conqueror. He was kind, religious, and was a strong warrior. He ruled “By the sword and by the cross”.
The architectural style of the Thomas Jefferson building of the United States Library of Congress, designed by Paul Pelz and John Smithmeyer, is a spectacular take on the Beaux-Arts style of architecture. Finished in 1897, the Thomas Jefferson building was the first of the three buildings of the Library of Congress to be built and is the most striking of the three. The interior of the building is just as intricately and innovatively designed as the exterior. Initially containing four interior courtyards (two have since been turned into additional bookshelves), the rooms inside are filled with many pieces of American made artwork and sculpture commissioned specifically for the building. Visitors to the United States Library of Congress can turn
The building was 200 ft tall, and the façade was excessively ornamented in a beautiful way, and in a mixture of different styles including Gothic, Baroque, Churrigueresque to illustrate the appearance of a Spanish Colonial church. The facade was made of stone, and it did not include usual ornamentation, but sculpted historical figures of remarkable and significant people mostly were
The grand structure that resides in present day Germany was built in honor the Virgin Mary. The site was used for many important religious and public occasions, for example the king of Germany held his coronation in the Chapel. The site had been continued to be strongly linked to Charlemagne through more than his name, as Otto III ordered his remains to be placed there in honor of him and his accomplishments. Essentially, although the Palace is seen under a more political light than Hagia Sophia, both structures have histories deeply rooted in the Christian religion. Another strong similarity stands in the fact that their nations leaders worked hard to preserve and then rebuild the structures when disaster
The Medici will later use the Old Sacristy as a tomb for their family. This building was significant because it help set the tone for a new style of architecture. It was built around proportions and classical orders. Which become popular in the Italian Renaissance Era. It was completed around the year 1440, but
If we look at the Pantheon, we recognize that Pantheon in Greek means to honour all Gods, which is therefore another influence that Greece had on Roman Architecture. The building design is one of a substantial round shape very much like a large barrel with a dome covering the top. There is a light-well in the centre of the dome. Layers of alluring thin brickwork cover the outside, round walls. There are small access holes that appear infrequently in the wall which were utilized during construction to frame interior voids.
In 1947, a contest to design a structure that represented the western expansion of America was created by the Jefferson National Expansion Memorial Association. The winner of the contest was architect Eero Saarinen, who designed a stainless steel arch that is now known as the Gateway Arch. The arch is located in St. Louis, Missouri and is 60 feet tall and was completed in 1965. (US National Park Services) Like many national landmarks, the arch is a symbol of our country and its growth.
Introduction The site I chose and observed over seven total visits was my local public library, Pleasant View Library. Pleasant View Library was opened on June 25, 1975 by the North York Public Library Board and was retrofitted in 1995. It is currently one of the smallest libraries in Toronto. This makes the task of observing all of the library easy because one can see everything simply from their seat.
The cathedral is a symbol a religion and is repeated throughout the book, for example in chapter 23, “there was a fog in the square and when we came close to the cathedral it was very big and the stone was wet. “Would you like to go in?” “No,” Catherine said.” In the mentioned lines of A farewell to Arms you can read that Frederic Henry wants to go in and that makes him a religious man, Catherine refuses to go in the cathedral. Another symbol given by the novel is the Saint Anthony medal.
A couple years late in 1533, Pope Paul III selecting Michelangelo including his chief who was multiple things. He was a painter, sculptor and architect. It is now the most famous civic center in the world to top it off it is also a design of the dome of the Saint Peter's
