Life is filled with environmental demands and pressures that cause what is known as stress. Excessive levels of stress if not dealt with can cause significant health issues. Stress management tools are essential in providing ways to deal with and lessen its negative effects on the physiology, mind, and emotions. One of the self-care tools I will be employing into my own life to manage stress and promote wellness is yoga, of which there have been many studies to show its benefits to one’s health and well-being. Attending nursing school in itself is a stressful undertaking. The longer session of Asthanga yoga will be what is referred to as the basic series. I will first start by following along with an hour long video by David Swenson as well as having the option of attending an in-person class at the local yoga studio. The two shorter sessions of yoga will either be sun salutations (surya namaskar), yin yoga, or the five Tibetan rite yoga asanas. Sun salutations involve a certain sequence of asanas, yin yoga is a practice of holding specific stretching poses for three to five minutes, and the five Tibetan rites includes five moving yoga asanas in a specific sequence, repeated 21 times. Edwards (2012) highlights that yoga benefits the body through strengthening, relaxing, and improving flexibility, all of which will help to ease painful tension and in turn reducing stress and anxiety levels. In addition, through a national survey of yoga practitioners about the mental and physical health benefits of yoga, Ross, Friedmann, Bevans, & Thomas (2013), concluded that objectively practitioners felt improved health, energy, happiness, social relationships, and sleep. Advanced Practice Registered Nurse (APRN) has grown in the past years and continuation of its growth is expected. Studies show that there are some difficulties that a novice nurse experience as they transition to APRN. (Hill, L. *& Sawatzky, J. 2011). The transition is also stressful for the nurse practitioner, thus making the NP feel inadequate, overwhelmed and incompetent. Fortunately, there are steps that can help this transition run smoothly.
Self-Regulation and the New Registered Nurse Introduction The nursing profession has been self-regulating in Ontario since 1963. Self-regulation is a privilege granted to professions that have shown they can put the interest of the public ahead of their own professional interests. It recognizes that Ontario’s nurses have the knowledge and expertise to regulate themselves as individual practitioners and to regulate their profession through the college (“What is CNO?”, 2018). Proactive self-regulation involves establishing learning goals, strategies to address goals, monitor progress of goals, creation of environments conducive to learning, and maintenance of self-efficacy (Zimmerman & Schunk, 2011).

This week I focused my research on obstacles present, in our current healthcare system, which may inhibit the implementation of holistic care practices. Unfortunately, I believe in order to effectively incorporate holistic practices understanding of their importance, in caring for the whole individual, will require a new mind-set from the “top down” within medical facilities.

Nursing is a profession that started as part of the larger medical field. Nursing has dropped its dependence on the medical field and it has grown independent with its models and separate interventions. Many nursing leaders have devised different theories to fit into the nursing field. There are some different nursing theories that encompass the nursing theory. The need theory, unitary human theory, self-care theory, interpersonal theory, transcultural nursing, and from novice to expert theories are all nursing theories.

Jennifer Macmaster who has a master degree is a 26 years old female. She is a secondary school teacher. She spends most of the time at school, so sometimes she feels tired. Thus, she starts to do exercise. Especially, she likes to do yoga because it can make her feel relax.
Wasn’t yoga supposed to be similar to meditation? Isn’t it supposed to be peaceful? This class was the furthest thing from peaceful. But as I found my bearings, I began to enjoy yoga. Having played tennis my whole life, it was refreshing to exercise without worrying about trying to do a better downward dog than the person next to me.

My teaching philosophy stems from my belief that the gauge of a teacher 's success is how effectively the teacher prepares students, not only for present courses, but for their future professional careers. As a Nurse, I am committed to the nursing profession and I chose nursing since; nurses have the chance to a life changing event to every patient. Nurses promote Health Education, Healing and Prevention of Illness, as well as performing end of life care through a dignified death. I chose to be a nurse because I wanted to contribute to humanity, to feel that the world was in some small way, better because I was a part of it.
Another study at the U.S. National Institute of Health had participants do yoga every day for eight weeks, and take brain scans before and after. These scans showed that a part of the brain called the amygdala, which controls fear, anxiety and stress, had shrunk after the 8 weeks of yoga practice. Through this initial assessment, the nurse can obtain information that is crucial in providing the client with effective holistic care. Nursing assessment framework tools are used to help the nurse obtain accurate information about the patient’s wants and needs. This initial assessment based on subjective and objective data, helps to determine the patient’s actual problems and potential problems (Weber & Kelley, 2013). An assessment is carried out to obtain objective data and a physical baseline of the patient on admission.
Yoga and meditation could play a big part in your life a lot of people don't get that advantage of taking the class that I got to take. I never thought it would be something I'm really into and I think it's good for you just in general I would have trouble waking up in the morning so I would sun salutations to become more attentive then at night I would focus on my deep meditation along with my heart centering to bring my energy back down. Overall I think yoga has changed my perspective on how to look at situations and how to handle them, I believe it can do anyone good in their life, it can build a positive bond with your conscience and other people.
