Disobedience for the most part, is seen as a bad thing. However, in some way disobedience and rebellion can help to bring a favored outcome through a situation. An issue with obeying is that if people obey something blindly it can be problematic for one’s own well-being. For people looking for change in some ways, pushing against the rules is the only way to get what they want. Although to most, disobedience can be viewed as wrong and immoral, in many cases it can be the key one needs to make progress.
Mythology is a collection of myths and stories belonging to a particular belief system or cultural tradition. Even though there are a variety of different myths taught around the world, Greek mythologies are more famously known for their fruitful stories and complex relationships. Greek mythologies mostly concern their gods and heroes such as; Hercules, Achilles, Theseus, and Perseus. Of the many Greek heroes, Jason is the most heroic due to the fact that although he is abandoned at a very young age, he is still able to survive, also he proves to Hera the goddess who hated heroes that he is worthy to be favoured by her, and he completes the impossible quest of the Golden Fleece. Jason is born in a very superior family, having a father who is the lawful king of Iolcus.
The View from Saturday By F.L. Konigsburg In the book, The View from Saturday, the characters were faced with choices that would affect their friendship and reality. I think that the choice between answers is the key to everything. To my opinion, the answer to the reason why everything is here at this time and place, are choices. Choices were made throughout the this book.
In the short story “Waiting for the Evening News”, the author, Tim Gautreaux creates a negative tone towards Jesse and how he deals with his actions and that tone creates a theme of the importance to take accountability for your actions. He does this by characterizing Jesse through his thoughts and actions, the imagery of the crime scene, and through the people he interacts with during his hiding. Gautreaux characterizes Jesse as a selfish, drunk man who will not own up to his to decisions to give the character room to change and to progressively learn he needs to take accountability for his actions. One of the common ways that Gautreaux shows his negative attitude towards Jesse is by characterizing him as a nobody.
What makes a man different then a guy? Some people would say the difference is age or smartness, but Dave Barry wrote an article describing what he thought the major differences are. Dave Barry’s article is called “Guys vs. Men.” His article says that guys are interested in neat stuff, like pointless challenges, and do not have a ridged and well-defined moral code. Barry’s article can relate to Wes Moore’s book called The Other Wes Moore.
Ben Utecht once said, “We are the culmination of all we have experienced, all we have thought and read and believed, all we have loved. We are living memories” (Utecht 2016, pg. 9). In Utecht’s Counting the Days While My Mind Slips Away, you can see that the idea of him losing his memory is a real possibility, and a lot of that can be attributed to the poor treatment of his concussions. Ben Utecht’s autobiography is an example of the significant role discourse plays in how medical injuries, physical and mental alike, are viewed and therefore cared for in both sports and day to day lifestyles. The minimized medicalization of concussions has led society to lack awareness in knowing the seriousness of a head injury and the steps that should be
The main goal in people’s lives is to achieve happiness. There is no set in stone way to live a happy life, so people can use others’ experiences to help them get happiness. Additionally, people live in a world with technology, and the new technology helps them get more information and work efficiently. Since people think technology is beneficial and brings more happiness, they all choose to use it and change their lifestyles. In the essay “Reporting Live from Tomorrow” written by Daniel Gilbert, he describes how people predict their future emotions by using others’ experiences.
The presidential election in 2016 has definitely been one to remember. A woman won a nomination and Donald Trump became the presidential nominee for the United States of America. Chris Matthews, who is a political commentator, wrote a book titled Hardball: How Politics is Played Told by One Who Knows the Game. This book lists several maxims, or rule of conduct, that he believes politicians use the most. A few of them seem obvious, like positioning or keeping your enemies in front of you.
While the plot of Black Swan Green principally depicts a male protagonist, Jason, and his development despite pressures imposed by other male antagonists (Wilcox, Mr. Nixon, his father, etc…), it is the female characters in the novel that inspire Jason to resolve his conflicted image. In the era of this novel, and even now (though depublicized by gender equality movements), the development of boys was considered to be radically different than that of young woman. Boys were supposed act cool around bullies(Ross) and older cousins(Hugo), play violent social games and smoke. Unfortunately for Jason, his “Inside-You”, the person that he really is, does not align itself with these socially acceptable practices. Instead, he elects to write poetry,
Furthermore, due to Jordan Matthews’ routine-driven nature and his obsessive sense of time, he knew that as his ‘clock chimed eight, his fortnight’s pay had been deposited…to the dollar’. Having only a timed-based connection with the outside world, Jordan Matthews felt ‘slightly dislocated’ when the cleaning lady visited. Matthew’s lack of compassion developed because of his selfish routine of withdrawal from people. Even an old man collapsing wasn’t a large enough ‘distraction’ to deter him from his perfectly- timed routine. Jordan Matthews isolates himself in a world of routine because time is his only companion which doesn’t change.
