In the non-fiction book Trace Evidence by Bruce Henderson, the author talks about many cases that include a rapist strangler freely walking the streets of California and killing women. A majority of the cases take place on I-5, one of the cases was about Stephanie Marcia Brown who was lost after giving someone a ride and may have stopped and asked for directions. She was raped, strangled, and thrown into an irrigation ditch just off South Sacramento. Another case was about Charmaine Sabrah who was driving on I-5 late at night, since her car broke down, she asked for a ride and was never seen again. She was also raped and strangled, the killer just threw her body down a shoreline southeast of Sacramento. Over the boiling summer, Charmaine’s
I was researching online and I found a very interesting case that took place in Houston, Texas. This case involved a 22-year-old female at the time that goes by the name of Cherita Thurman. Cherita was beaten very badly and hog-tied in her apartment back in 2002(KHOU, 2017). The exterminator was making his rounds and that’s when he found her breathless body just lying there. Cherita death was immediately ruled as a homicide because there were no leads to the case (KHOU, 2017).

I thought it was really interesting that news sites from other states, like Oregon, were reporting about this crime. Oregon is so far away from Ohio, that I never would have thought they would post about something that happened here, especially since this case was not TOO extreme as say a serial arsonist or murderer, for example. Police Reports I was unable to find and obtain any police reports.
The problem with this killing and the others is, it broke the pattern. It broke the pattern because this killing did not happen on the weekend like all the others had. A suspect ended up being taken in but no arrest was mad until March 9th, 1984. On March 9th, Milton Johnson was arrested when he checked in with his parole officer. Milton was charged with aggravated battery and deviant sexual assault in the rape of Anthony Hackett’s fiancée (Blanco).
“[His] victims were believed to be [convenient] prostitutes or runaways picked up along Pacific Highway South,” (Roberts, 2017). Gary Ridgway would usually pick up these victims along the South Pacific Highway in Seattle, Washington. He would often show the victim a picture of his son to gain their trust. Gary would have sex with them but would always insist on making his payment after they were finished (Roberts 2017). “After sex, he had strangled the women, then dumped most of their bodies in wooded areas around the Green River,” (Roberts 2017).
Murder is one of the hardest crimes to commit and get away with due to all of the technology used today to solve crimes. The only problem with this case is that it was committed in the 1890’s. Murderers were able to easily escape during these times due to the little evidence that could be found. This caused crime and murder rates to increase rapidly. Lizzie Borden was an example of a murderer that escaped all of the charges against her.

It takes more than a few killings to get the consideration of the people in a city the size of Los Angeles. Homicides are a daily occurrence, mainly when one involves a person living in a high-risk way of life, like a prostitute. So when three women were found smothered and dumped unclothed on hillsides northeast of the city among October and early November of 1977, very little people lost sleep over it. Only a couple homicide detectives got worried that this was just the start of something that can get really dangerous. Everything altered during the end of November and the beginning of December when young women were founded on the hillsides of Los Angeles.

In 1859, Charles Darwin theorized in his book On the Origin of Species that organism changes over time through natural selection (“Evolution”). After this theory was made, many people tried to find evidences that would be able to support the Theory of Evolution. There have been several examples of evidence in the areas of geology, genetic, and paleontology. Many paleontologists also have been trying to prove Evolution by unearthing several paleontological evidences, which is evidence from the study of fossils that shows that living things that once existed became extinct through evolution (“Evolution”). However, even though the theory has been supported by numerous paleontological evidences, some people still tend to oppose the Theory of Evolution.
