In order to put an end to gang violence in the community law enforcement should tackle the problem from the source, including the leaders and their right hand man. Get inside information about what they are about to do , when and where. Put a man on the inside that can get both information and also get to see the action first hand. Having an informant on the inside would allow law enforcement to have an eyes on the leader and their right hand mans. It would allow law enforcement to have an eye on all the action thats is happening on the inside. Tackling the source from the ground up is one of the approach the law enforcement can take. In Addition to the solution for gang control , the no snitching rule that was instated upon the community was also a issue that needed a solution. The community fear their life if they decided to speak up against violence that is happening around them . Fearing the safety of one’s life is important but in order to stop being afraid they have to start speak up. Let your voices be heard speak up against the people and the violence that is happening in the community. Coming together as a community and joining forces to stand up against the violence that is happen in the community will make it a safer place. Yes, gang member put fear in the community but sitting
According to the text, many communities are in need of the potential benefits of the model are themselves characterized by crime, disorder, and mistrust of the police, making it very hard to successfully implement community. As for NSP, violence is power and reputation to gain over with other street gangs. According to Grant, “the growing trend within the communities to participate in the fight against crime and disorder has paralleled a growing recognition by the police that traditional crime-fighting tactics alone have a limited impact on controlling crime. Also, Community policing is the synthesis of these two movements” (Grant, pg. 297, 2008).
Rosalia Parrado Ms. D LIT 2010.012 15 September 2016 P1 rough draft – Brockmeier Silent night “The Year of Silence” by Kevin Brockmeier, is an extremely interesting story that captures the significance of what we value in life. The family came running out of their house while the shooter Byron de la Beckwith left the area of the crime. Later on the F.B.I. finds Byron in the woods near the scene of the crime and brings him in as a suspect, where he had a trial in a racist state, with a racist judge, and a racist jury. The evidence had his finger prints on it, he was spotted at the scene of the crime, and his car was found near the scene of the crime, but because it was a horribly racist time period he was found not guilty, and was let out into the public, where on his way home the people of the city threw an entire parade for him. Nearly twenty-six years later Myrlie Evers heads to the D.A.'s office in hopes to reopen the case, where a man named Bobby Delaughter is introduced.
For this chosen gang response essay, I have decided to interview Nathan Scarano. Scarano is currently Probation Division Director II. With also a five-year experience of SMASH and years of policing for San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department before this. Scarano was a perfect person to interview with lot of experience with gangs and even more experience in probation. This gives me a real insight on how he has dealt with multiple problems and gang related violence from numerous occasions.
The book On the Run by Alice Goffman narrates six years Goffman spent hanging out in a black poor neighborhood of West Philadelphia that she calls 6th Street. During her stay there, she became friends with a group of resident young men, and got to know their surroundings such as girlfriends and family members. This experience in this disadvantaged neighborhood pushed her to write this book where she describes the neighborhood’s conditions, the violence encountered by the police and the residents, and the injustices of the criminal justice system. The book’s primary argument is that the continuous threat of surveillance and continuous investigations that lead to the arrest and imprisonment of young people did great harm to 6th Street, turning many of its residents into
A series of scandals plagued the police department in the 1990’s, the mayoral Street administration experienced a litany of corruption accusation stemming from awarding contracts based on campaign donations for the 2003 reelection campaign . The 2000’s experienced an increase in violent crime after championing a decline in the 1990’s. Ironically, in 2005, National Geographic Traveler, named Philadelphia America 's Next Great City, citing its recent revitalization and general compact cityscape . Overall, the early 2000’s were considered a setback for the city of Philadelphia, but for one man this time period offered bold

In the United States, every year there are around 2,000 gang-related homicides and in the realistic fiction novel, The Outsiders, by S.E Hinton, it explores the issues of gang violence, and teenagers in gangs. Around 40% of all members in gangs are teenagers, who are getting involved in some dangerous things very early in life. In the novel The Outsiders, the “Greasers” which is a gang of all teenagers, fight other gangs and commit serious crimes such as murder. We as a society need to pinpoint why teenagers join gangs and stop them beforehand. We also need to help people get out of gangs if they are already in one.
The bond that the partnership fostered will be a force multiplier that will mitigate the gang violence crime in this community. When the Riverside police department allows the citizens of the Riverside community involvement it will be able a major resource. The resource of Riverside will assist in the crime-prevention of gang activities, instead of the normal reaction response from the Riverside Police Department. The major pro from Riverside Community problem-oriented policing will assist in the solution of gang violence. The actual partnership is when Riverside members believe that Riverside police department is interested in the same Problem-Oriented solution (“Understanding Community Policing,”1994).
Prison gangs thrive on crime within the facility. If not addressed their involvement in crime will continue to grow and pose a threat to other inmates, staff, and the institution. If procedures are not put into place then gang membership will only continue and remain a safety concern. Administration must ensure their staff members are adequately trained and know how to act and deal with the gangs. Because the prison community is so private more research needs to be done to understand the workings of prison gangs and get more current, detailed, data.
Chicago has had its ups and downs in the cities violent history, but early 2016 to present has been an exception. Chicago increased in homicides by 59 percent in 2016 and it has only become worse since then with a 29 percent increase in just the first few months of 2017 (Asher, FiveThirtyEight.com; Ford, The Atlantic). It is obvious that something needs to be done, but so far there have not been any major changes made or drastic measures taken in order to improve Chicago’s current state of being. Right now, the three most predominant causes are Chicago’s Police, Chicago’s many gangs, and firearms, hand guns in particular. If the city wants to make any improvements whatsoever then it needs act decisively on gangs and guns, start using different
War is a harsh reality that is inflicted upon the unwilling through the “need” of it’s predecessors and those whom wish it. All Quiet on The Western Front by Erich Maria Remarque is about 19 year old Paul and his friends in the “Second Company”. Even though they are just out of school age, they have already seen things that many could not bear to even think about. Eventually, all of his friends die, and even Paul too, dies. Remarque uses diction and syntax as literary devices to express his anti-war theme, or lesson.

There exist many difficulties in attempting to completely eliminate all violent crime as it can have various causes such as poverty, mental health issues, a troubled home life, and more (Fernandez, Pendergrass, paragraph 4). However, solutions to reduce the amount of violent crime do exist. Solutions like increasing funding to police departments, implementing focused deterrence strategies across the state, and investing in community services to help out citizens all aid in reducing the amount of violent crime, but with varying levels of effectiveness. Out of the solutions listed, investing in the community has the greatest impact due to the solution addressing the problem before the police get involved, and sometimes entirely preventing any issues in the first place. Increasing police funding seems like an obvious solution that would allow for more officers to stop violent crime.
“ The Sounds of Silence” by Paul Simon and Art Garfunkel presents a deep understanding and meaning of the topic that people lack the ability to communicate. Peoples thoughts are ordered by the media and forget about the true meaning of their own voices. Simon and Garfunkel represent this through the use of figurative language and poetic techniques which served really well to their song. Darkness is sometimes described as a depressive state to those who can't confide in no one and are all alone.
