Any statistic is prone to manipulations and error depending on the intentions of the source. For example, to increase the sale of a newspaper during an election, newspaper companies put out conclusive headlines that a candidate is leading in ballots. The journalist might reach a conclusion by assumption or by sampling few members of the community whom they voted for in the election. Subsequently, they reach an inaccurate conclusion. If ballot papers are stolen, or voters vote more than one time, data will be in error, and the wrong candidate will emerge as a winner of the election. Statistics can be used inappropriately in any field of endeavor, including the health industry. An example is the Veterans Affairs scandal in which appointment dates
The book, Veterans Day by J.J. Jorgens emphasizes the plight of neglected veterans in the United States of America. It presents a story about Mary Jane Morris, a female private detective. One Halloween night, she received an urgent voice message from her ex-partner, Davy, and she rushed to his office only to find him dead. Altogether, it looked like Davy committed suicide, but Mary Jane's instinct told her that there was more to her ex-partner's death. She felt Davy intentionally called her so that she could be the first person to discover his body; he wanted her to obtain clues about his killer.
There are federal police, but their jurisdiction is limited to the federal property to which they are assigned. The General Services Administration and Veteran's Administration are two agencies that employ federal police officers. As stated elsewhere here, there are numerous federal law enforcement agencies with various jurisdictions to investigate federal crimes. In some states, some federal agents are authorized to make arrests for state offenses, and it is not uncommon for federal agents to prosecute for state crimes when prosecution is declined by federal prosecutors. And, state and local police can refer crimes directly to federal prosecutors in some instances, but their authority is limited to the state or local boundaries.
VA Choice Act was a politically motivated Band-Aid on a placed over severed artery. Without a re-vamp of the entire US healthcare system, The Obligation of Honor to US military Veterans cannot be fulfilled due to an overburdened, underfunded VHA and the attempt of “privatization” of the excess Veteran demand to the private sector health care system has proven abysmal. The only hope to fulfill the Obligation of Honor is a restructuring of the entire US healthcare model incorporating Universal healthcare. Undersecretary for Health Dr. Randy Petzel retired on May 15, 2014 and VA Secretary Eric Shinseki resigned two weeks later on May 30, 2014. The U. S. President appointed the Honorable Robert “Bob” McDonald as the new VA Secretary charged with making changes to the VA System.
“I thought the Vietnam war was an utter, unmitigated disaster, so it was very hard for me to say anything good about it” - George McGovern. There are numerous controversial topics dispersed among the subject of American history due to the amount of unethical decisions that have been made in order to improve the lives of the people or keep America out of the clutches of war. Throughout American history, historians have debated the ethical impact that the Vietnam war had on the United States. Although some people may believe that the Vietnam War achieved the goal of avoiding communism and protecting the people, the overarching idea is that it was an unjust war because of the countless lives that were lost from the participating countries, the
. It would be one-and-one with one military person and one older mentor. For example, if the military person were interested in becoming a teacher, it could be someone on education. For a military interested in looking into becoming an electrician, it could be a senior electrician or the owner of an electrical repair business. For interest in sports coaching, a successful coach.
They are damned lies, and they are more unreliable than normal lies. The final phrase in the adage, statistics, are the worst because they mislead people every day. People tend to believe statistics more than anything. Statistics shouldn’t be believed
I chose this topic because there seems to be a growing epidemic of homeless veterans in our country. This is very sad when you think of how those men and women voluntarily signed up to serve. There are so many Americans that live by the slogan “Land of the Free because of the Brave” yet, you have so many brave men and women eating out of garbage cans and sleeping under bridges. According to the National Coalition for Homeless Veterans there are several factors that contributed to displacement of veterans such as shortage of affordable housing, low income, and inadequately healthcare. As well as the lack of family and social support not to mention the returning home wounded veterans suffering with the post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), depression
The definition for veteran is a patriot who shows great courage and bravery and is also a defender of America and its freedom and is a hero to their country. I think that the Veterans should be honored for these three reason: the sacrifice that they went through, the respect they went through, and the freedom that they fought to give us. They Sacrificed a lot of things for our country. Many people gave up time with their family and left their homes. It takes so much time and effort to be in the army or military.
An example of making one of the polls biased would be if they only polled certain races, genders, social classes, or party affiliations (like polling only Republicans or Democrats because most people tend to vote for the candidate of their political
Veteran Benefits The issue of veteran benefits in the United States is not taken as seriously as it should be in our country, even though it is a growing problem that needs to be addressed. The lack of available funding for veterans is especially obvious when compared to that available for lower income citizens, or even illegal immigrants. Also, what does exist appears to fall short in taking care of veteran’s needs. Considering that these veterans are people who have risked their lives fighting for this country, the fact that they are not receiving immediate benefits or even what they have earned is unfair.
Public opinion polls are really common today. It is true that the public opinion polls are a kind of inductive generalization. As inductive generalizations, some arguments are strong while some others are weak. It cannot be denied that the arguments have to be strong so that the conclusion is cogent. According to Russell Renka, a professor of political science at Southeast Missouri State University, in order for the polls to be strong, “the questions must be worded in a clear and neutral fashion”, “ the subjects in the sample must be randomly selected”, and “the survey or poll must be sufficiently large that the built-in sampling error is reasonably small”(Renka 2).
Now that's only one of the times Florence Kelley uses statistics. She uses statistics again in this next quote. “Children 13 years of age to work twelve hours at night”(47). Florence kelley is now producing a scenario where the child is working at night harsh and cold for a total of twelve hours which is half of the day doing nothing but work. We have gone through ⅔ of the ways Florence Kelley has used rhetoric.
For instance, tabloid newspapers tend to have false comments about politicians, whereas non-tabloid newspapers tend to have valid articles. With countless news channels, magazines and newspapers, it is quite difficult with what to believe in, but usually the newspaper or news channel that has the most misled stories is too good to be true. When candidates make speeches, other news stations that despise that candidate would always make negative comments. For example, during the presidential election of 2016, many news stations were biased about the campaign, and made many false comments about Donald

Veteran’s Benefits Veteran’s pay a heavy price for our freedom, but do we in turn repay them back? Once veteran’s return home they receive several benefits, such as education, disability compensation, and low-cost medical care. Each are specific due to how they benefit each veteran, but not all are capable of fully providing the veteran. Veterans receive benefits based on discharge from active military service other than dishonorable conditions. Active service must be serving full time as a member under several branches, Army, Navy, Marines, Air Force, Coast Guard, or as a commissioned officer of the Public Health Service, Environmental Services Administration or the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration.
