From an early age, I have been fascinated by the workings of life; the human body is a remarkable machine with many diverse systems producing an organism that can never be artificially reproduced. My decision to study a course that provides care and love to patients originated from my ambition to pursue a career that combined my enthusiasm for sciences, particularly Biology and Chemistry, with my love of working with people. My interest in helping individuals was sparked during my work placement at a local Optician. During my time here, I have developed many skills suiting the optical environment and the experience has helped further my understanding of this field. I began by shadowing my experienced colleagues in a range of services such as dispensing suitable spectacles for each patient. I also had the opportunity to enter the procedure room and observe the doctor whilst he undertakes an eye/contact lens exam on each patient. …show more content…
I did have first aid training and also dealt with situations where I had to be depended on for treating those students when needed. I believe I was quick and calm which is significantly efficient as a role of any lifetime career, as panicking would only make the situation worse. Not only does this give me the experience of handling patients with care, it also gave me a feeling of satisfaction when parents of the children were delighted to hear that there was someone out there, helping their child and trusted upon. This therefore, made me think of doing a job where I can make a positive difference in people’s

Today’s lecture on the physician assistants (PA) was very informative. Mrs. Hughes spoke on what a physician assistant is, what they do as well as what the requirements are for those who chose the career path. PA’s are individuals whom practice medicine while also being under the supervision of medical doctors or physicians. They can work in all areas of medicine including emergency medicine, surgery and psychiatry which Mrs. Hughes works under. Within this occupation individuals have the ability to prescribe medicine, diagnose and treat mental illnesses, give immunizations as well as perform various other tasks.
At the end of my junior year, I was given the option of applying for a number leadership position that would allow me, if accepted, to lead my classmates in the upcoming year. Positions ranged from Residential Life Assistants, similar to RAs in college dorms, to Attaches, students who aid in the Department of Institutional Advancement. While some of my classmates were torn on which positions to apply to, I was not. I knew that I wanted to be one thing, and one thing only. That being a Teaching Assistant for my all time favorite teacher, Dr. Bruno.
Every dime I earn working at Reynolds Community College and every grant and scholarship I receive will go towards my passion of studying human behavior and applying everything I learn to bringing every community I can reach, a giant leap forward. After receiving my associates degree in Social a Science I decided to take a year off to work towards finding what it is that I really want to pursue. I have searched for that 'something ' that will keep me intrigued and awake all hours of the night without realizing it. I have eliminated the idea of simply working to make ends meet or finding a good job to support my family and "living" outside the 40+ hours of a weekday job. I am pursuing much more and I am confident that I have found a path leading me to wake up before my alarm clock sounds instead of praying for more time.

Resident Assistants serve many purposes and play many roles in the community. They help to build and promote a supportive and active community within their residence hall and across the campus, and offer support and guidance to their residents. This aids in making Geneseo feel more like home and a community rather than simply a school. RAs enforce Geneseo and Department of Student Life rules, while also being a more easily accessible and less intimidating resource to other students in need of help. I want to be an RA so that I can become more involved in the Geneseo community in a positive way, by helping and representing other students.
Through my studies of human expression and its reflection of how people deal with world events in different ways, I developed sensitivity to other worldviews that continues to prove useful through my daily interactions with people of different backgrounds. I have learned that just like art, medicine involves pattern recognition and derives insight from experiences. Similarly, what I especially enjoy about being a medical assistant is interacting with patients on a daily basis and getting to be a part of their medical experiences, even if it is just by lending an ear. The experiences on my path to a career in medicine have made me want to make a real, tangible difference in the lives of those around me – a difference that leaves my patients in a better condition than they were in before I met them.

Dear Dr. Cathleen Moore and the Department of Psychological and Brain Sciences, I would like to be considered for your Graduate Teaching Assistant position that was posted on 10/31/2017. I believe that I would be a great fit for this position due to my experiences as a teacher and my academic background in psychology. One reason I would be a great fit for this position is because I once held what seems to be a nearly identical position in college. At Southern Illinois University (SIU), I served as an undergraduate Teaching Assistant for Introduction to Psychology under the tutelage of Dr. Meera Komarraju. In this position, I led a discussion section for a similar number of students that were mostly at the freshmen and sophomore level.
