In the book Fahrenheit 451, we see the effect of consistent technology and the effects it had on Guy’s wife Mildred. Many teens miss the wonderful things that fill the days due to the amount of time spent on their smart phones. ‘Stuff your eyes with wonder, he said, live as if you’d drop dead in ten seconds. See the world. It’s more fantastic than any dream made or paid for in factories” (Pg. 155). As teenagers, we need to see the world and go to new heights. While we are young, you must do things that we will not be able to do when we can barely walk. This quote is telling us to make new memories and to not spend time with ones made in factories. We should always live life as if there wasn’t a tomorrow. Spending time inside on an electronic device is no way to live when we could be enjoying the beautiful sights bestowed upon our Earth. As the future generation, we should be taking our world to new
Today technological advancements, upon which society is built, are made on a daily basis. Technology is used by everyone but whether any of us like to admit it or not, it has an influence on our behavior. In Fahrenheit 451, the dystopian city and the natural countryside are used to contrast reliance on technology and human nature - an idea seen in today’s society, which benefits from advancements in technology but is also becoming increasingly dependent upon it. Technology usage rates in today’s world are immense, Pew Research Center says that about 85% of American adults use technology on a daily basis. In Ray Bradbury’s dystopian novel, Fahrenheit 451, the rate of usage is significantly higher. The novel’s futuristic society has outlawed all books, forcing citizens such as Mildred and her friends to turn to technology for knowledge instead. As a result, a majority of the civilization possesses such a low mental capacity that there is rarely a reaction to the constant threat of nuclear war, or any event leading to the development of the society. Bradbury uses Mildred and her friends’ poor mental capacity to demonstrate both how reliance on technology damages one’s ability to think for oneself, and

The Power of Technology The usage of technology–specifically, the internet–has been an ongoing controversial topic, for often people have argued that it is damaging and manipulative to kids and teenagers alike because it is so addictive. In the world of Fahrenheit 451, the government has a ban placed on books, forcing the citizens to turn to other things for entertainment. Perhaps the most popular among the citizens are parlor walls, which engage them in hours of mindless staring at sitcoms which are projected onto the wall-sized television screens. The parlor walls represent how easily the power of technology can be taken advantage of; Bradbury expresses this idea through the obsessive behaviour the citizens show towards these walls.
Although the advancement of technology can lead to a greater efficiency, it can also lead people to rely on these technological advances too much that can cause them to become “brainless”. Technology plays a very important aspect in the world of Fahrenheit 451. People in their society has little or no interactions with others, and can barely have a thoughtful conversation. This is seen when Mildred tells Montag, “I went to to Helen’s last night”(Bradbury 50). Montag then asks her , “Couldn’t you get the shows in your own parlor?”
