Ted Bundy Ted Bundy was one of the most infamous serial killers of the 1970s. After a not-so-normal childhood, he began raping and killing young women until he was finally captured. Although his exact victim count is still unknown, it is believed that Bundy claimed over one-hundred lives while on his killing spree. Theodore Robert Cowell was born on November 24, 1946 at the Elizabeth Lund Home for Unwed Mothers to Eleanor “Louise” Cowell. Because his mother was young and unwed, and had no idea where Ted’s father was, his grandparents, Samuel and Eleanor Cowell, raised him as if they were his parents and his mother was his sister. But after rumors of Bundy being a thief circulated, he sank into a deep depression. He later completed a semester at Temple University then returned to Washington in fall of 1969. As if by the flip of a switch, Ted became very confident and outgoing to the point of being called an “extroverted braggart”, and earned his Bachelor’s degree in psychology in 1972. After he had finished school, Bundy decided to return to the political scene and worked on the re-election committee of Washington’s republican governor, Dan Evans. Once he was elected, Evans gave Ted a seat on the Seattle Crime Prevention Advisory Commitee. In 1973, he became the assistant to Ross Davis, Chairman of teh Washington State Republican Party. Things seemed to be looking up for Bundy, but as we all know, there’s more to any situation than what meets the eye. (Source #2) In July of 1974, Lydia Ann Henry was among one of the first women to disappear from the Washington and Oregan area. While at the Seattle State Park, Henry was approached by a man named “Ted”, who claimed to need help with his sailboat.
