Let’s stop and look at how Webster’s dictionary defines gratitude and thanksgiving:

Gratitude – “a feeling of thankful appreciation for favors or benefits received; thankfulness.”

Thanksgiving – “the act of giving thanks an expression of this; esp; a formal often public, expression of thanks to God in the form of a prayer, etc.”

We find that even though we interchange them, they really are two different expressions. Gratitude is a feeling expressed through thanksgiving to God.
