Think about a time in your career when you needed a critical piece of information in short order to accomplish a task, but could not easily locate that information. Constant emails keep arriving in your inbox from you supervisor demanding an answer on when you will respond. Critical staffing actions are delayed or even forgotten due to the delay in obtaining necessary information to ensure organizational knowledge is fully incorporated into the decision-making process. These situations are all a result of an organization with knowledge management issues. The Alabama National Guard utilizes a share drive system as one of the two knowledge management systems. In this system, directorates such as personnel, operations, logistics, strategic planning, information management, and budget all have dedicated hard drive space to store data. Additionally, each individual Alabama National Guard unit has organizational folders on the share drive to store unit data. The second system utilized by the Alabama National Guard is a web-based Microsoft SharePoint system which is part of and integrated into the larger nationwide National Guard SharePoint system. This system, as with the share drive system, is organized along similar departmental and unit lines. Within these two systems resides the sum total of all organizational knowledge management for the Alabama National …show more content…
Knowledge is a resource that increases in value to an organization as it is used (Brajer-Marczak, 2016). It is essential that leaders and organizations throughout the Alabama National Guard have access to all necessary organizational knowledge for a multitude of reasons. Depositories of knowledge in organizations serve numerous functions to include sharing and disseminating information, increasing awareness, and communication of values and best practices (Brajer-Marczak, 2016). The primary reason is for all departments and units in the Alabama National Guard to have access to a central repository of all regulations, historical documents, plans, guidance, and best practices in order to conduct daily operations. Additionally, operations are often conducted away from the office, or in austere environments utilizing mobile broadband and laptop computer. Having access to the organizations data in an organized efficient manner is essential. Finally, a centralized knowledge management system allows organizations to share and collaborate much
trained killer from a Green Beret Unit. CID was fine observing and identify Greeley as AWOL(Away without official leave), but they also felt hard pressed to take Greeley under custody since he might not be willing. In both cases it would be necessary for the Green Beret unit to police itself. It was the proverbial chicken/egg scenario.
Depending on the size and complexity of the Project, a centralized electronic management system can be simplistic or very complex. This allows the Project Participants to agree upon the appropriate system for the specific Project. Some issues that can be addressed in this section would be access rights, and ownership of such a document management system. Access issues can be based on which personnel have the right to access the records or time specific access after the Project is concluded.
For example, a data warehouse can be constructed to extract and consolidate data from various computer systems or a workflow management system can be used to coordinate activities across several offices such as who works on what activity and how long it takes them to complete a task. Another way to shorten the close process is to centralize all accounting operations in one location. This allows the company to concentrate all of its efforts on improving the efficiency of a single
This type of Knowledge Management is known as explicit knowledge; the tool that the Knowledge Management component used is called a digital tool. As a Total Army School System (TASS) battalion representative, I have the responsibility of coordinating with four other states and one territory within the Army school system1. The fiction story that I wrote about was titled, “The Rebirth of an American Solider. The basis of this story was about a solider and how he was able to transition from his secondary position with the Army, right into being a well awarded sniper. The idea that I used for this story was two folded, first off at the University of Akron where I attended classes before transferring to Cuyahoga Community College. I was enrolled in a pair of composition classes that were military based.
Importance of Rank Structure “Military ranks are a system of hierarchical relationships in armed forces, police, intelligence agencies or other institutions organized along military lines. Military ranks and the military rank system define among others dominance, authority, as well as roles and responsibility in a military hierarchy. The military rank system incorporates the principles of exercising power and authority, and the military chain of command – the succession of commanders superior to subordinates through which command is exercised – constructs an important component for organized collective action.”
DMS is known as a shared service provider that gives assistance to state agencies and state employees through the areas of Human Resource Support, Business Operations, and Specialized Services. (Florida Department of Management Services, n.d.) During the 1990s, the Florida Department of Management Service (DMS) had already built a big information systems network. This network was utilized to serve the state government agencies in at least ten regional sites, and linked these locations to the data center that is located in
I believe in the act of paying it forward, and treating others the way you want to be treated in the midst of it. Ever since I was a little girl, I always had a heart to help anyone that I was able to. I hated seeing others down, making it seem as if I was higher than them when I had nothing. I believed that if I was in their shoes, I would want someone to help me. Seeing homeless people on the side of the streets sad, hungry, desperate for just a bite of a sandwich or even a couple dollars to get them by for the next few days, made me realize how much I want to help people who are in need.
Returning to the 4th Armored Brigade Combat Team (ABCT) to assume command as the brigade commander brings me much joy to be reunited with great Non-Commission Officers and Officers that I have previously served with. Unfortunately, this brigade is no longer the brigade I remember when I commanded a battalion within the 4th ABCT not so long ago. In the last 30 days, I have had the opportunity to observe the ABCT and review a multitude of historical documents to assess the state of the brigade. During my observation, I believe the critical leadership problem in the 4th ABCT’s is the lack of vision for the brigade. Therefore, this critical problem has led to other challenging issues within the brigade.

The information for the leader is imperative to survive in an organization (Llopis, 2011). The chains and the food stores catering to the segment were popular and having access to the customer was doing great business. The strategy operational at the store was simple and unique: low food prices and fast, friendly service. He also gathered the information that the counters and shelves remained empty. I had the information while serving the organization of the manner in which the systems and procedures worked.

Knowledge management is a process to ensure that knowledge developed through individuals and group work activities is effectively captured and made available to those who may benefit from it. An example would be to build into project plans the time for review and to identify at the outset how information, knowledge and experience will be captured, stored and shared with other individuals and/or areas of the organisation that may have an interest in the experience and knowledge gained as a result of the project. The importance and value of knowledge management has been brought into sharper focus in the current climate of financial constraint and the need to do more with
