People all over the world worship many gods, goddesses, and other higher beings. Some religions are monotheistic, worship one god or goddess, others are polytheistic, worship multiple gods and goddesses. The Igbo tribe is polytheistic because they worship many gods, goddesses, and spirits; such as, they worship a god named Chukwu, two minor gods, a minor goddess, and six different spirits. The first and most important being they worship, as stated by world eras, is a god named Chukwu. The Igbo tribe believes that Chukwu is the creator of the universe. The Igbo people believe that Chukwu created humans and all the minor gods and goddesses. The Igbo tribe mainly associates Chukwu with trees, other plants, and rain. In addition, the Igbo tribe view Chukwu as the creator of all moral law. Because the people believe that Chukwu is the creator of the universe, the Igbo tribe worship him and follow the moral laws that Chukwu has created. …show more content…

Ala is in charge of both the land and the people's fertility. Ala is so important to the Igbo tribe that they dedicate a whole week of peace to her. During this period, new societies were being shaped and formed in many different places in the world. Globalization changed societies and influenced them. Globalization is defined as when countries develop international influence. His tribes gods are manifestations of the earth and seasons and nature. Okonkwo gained his wealth by farming crops his entire life. To the Umuofia clan, respecting the gods that help with weather and rain is highly important since it is how they survive. Without their beliefs they wouldn't take care of their “home” as well as they do and Okonkwo wouldn't have turned into the man the reader sees in this novel. When the white missionaries come to their clan and try and change their belief system Okonkwo is enraged.
The ancient Hawaiian religion is polytheistic, with hundreds of deities being a part of their beliefs (Hardy, 2022). The god I will focus on is Lono, who, from Hawaiian mythology, is one of the four major gods; Kane, Ku, Lono, and Kanaloa. Some of these gods take on similarities or have slightly different names to other gods in places across Polynesia. In other Polynesia islands, these gods may have

The pre-colonial and postcolonial Igbo society has been observed to be male dominated. Men reign supreme in sociocultural affairs while the female figure has specific limited prescribed roles, a confirmation of absence of feministic ideologies. Motherhood, being submissive to the husband and generally domestic dutiesare some of the roles women are associated with. As the title of the novel by Buchi Emecheta Second Class Citizenimplies, the female figure has been treated as a lesser significant sexwithin the Igbo society considering that equalityamong women is limited by their fathers, husbands and the general patriarchy system. This is something Adah finds quite the same when she moves to England whereby with her African descent she continues to suffer womanhood struggles.
Greek gods and goddesses have been around for about a millennia, and much information can still be found about them today. Greek gods are immortal beings that control a certain power that most would think as a normal occurrence. The religion that these gods are worshipped in is called Hellenism, and those who worship are called Hellenic polytheists. There are many gods in this religion. This includes gods of the underworld, nature, and the Olympians.
There is the supreme deity, Kisiihiat, who create the world and lives in the sky above. There is also a culture hero, Wisaaka. This is the son of Kisiihiat. He created the Indian world and was the one who taught the Kickapoo how to build their houses, which happens to be a vital element of the Kickapoo religion. Most Oklahoma Kickapoo practice the traditional religion, as well as other religions like the Native American church and Protestant denominations (Religion and Expressive Culture - Kickapoo).
Okonkwo is seen going to his own private house where he can pray to his god and ancestors, “He worshipped them with sacrifices of kola nut, food and palm-wine” (p 14). This insinuates that even though they are polytheistic, but they also worship alone which is different within Hispanic culture by how people don’t worship alone but instead gather at a church and come together as a community. Their religious customs are even different like, for example, how the Igbos treat death. When Okonkwo dies, his life becomes meaningless because of the way he died and it is seen as an evil act upon the land and the others must cleanse it, Obierika tells the Commissioner when they see Okonkwo’s body, “We shall make sacrifices to cleanse the desecrated land” (p 208). The Igbos see Okonkwo’s death sin-like and must go through a process, in Hispanic culture death is very religious and there is an entire process where most importantly it mainly takes place in a church and everyone gathers to mourn no matter the way the person has

Hinduism: Polytheistic or Monotheistic? Regarded as the 3rd largest religion in the world, originating back to 2750-1750 BCE, Hinduism is a very unique religion practiced mostly by India (80 Percent). When asking the question whether this religion is polytheistic or monotheistic, it can be said that Hinduism can really be considered both of these terms due to different aspects. Hinduism is polytheistic, meaning that this religion worships many different gods all containing different elements, but Hinduism also is monotheistic, as its origins come from one sacred book, the Bhagavad Gita. Hinduism worshipers believe in many different gods, and worshipers participate in different pujas (rituals) to these gods.

Because the missionaries do not respect the Igbo religion, tension in villagers like Okonkwo increases. Once the white missionaries arrive in the village of Igbo they immediately start criticizing the natives religion. One missionary even told the people that “they worshipped false gods, gods of wood and stone.” completely
Achebe’s goals for Things Fall Apart is to counter the single story and portray a more cultured and complex of Africa opposing westerners ideals with the inclusion of Igbo folktales, Igbo proverbs, and 3rd person narration. Igbo folktales are an important piece of what makes Igbo culture complex, and unique. One Igbo folktale from Chapter 11 tells the story of a greedy tortoise who wants to join some birds in the sky for a feast. He tricks them and tells them his name is “All of you” then the birds say the meal is for all of you the tortoise takes all the food. The bird then punishes him by taking his feathers to fly away, the tortoise tells the birds to deliver a message to his wife.
There’s a lot of divinity going on around them in things and even animals that they considered as God. Another example is during the time when hunters and gatherers were the economics systems formed. Like in the movie Apocalypto, the leader of the tribe waited for the “red sun” to turn before having to kill a slave. The reason why is because they considered the “red sun” their God and that they to offer a
