Cinderella Man
Life changed for many Americans during the Great Depression. Families were faced with many problems. Economic hardship, emotional destress and keeping the family together. Men worked many different low paying jobs just to provide shelter and place a meal on the table. Each day families were coming up against another hardship or challenge. In the movie “Cinderella Man” a man name Jim Braddock, becomes a professional boxer. Not until after he losses his business and his stocks.
With the crash of the stock market the life style Jim and his family were use too was no more available to them. The stock market affects many banks which affected the public. In the movie, Jim Braddock has many events that challenge his life. He had to seek out work when his boxing license was resigned. Standing at a closed gate amongst many other men, he would wait to be handpicked for a job for that day. This was not enough to bring home the money he needed to provide for his family, but this was the best one could do. In the Great Depression, so many family from the young to the elder were affected. In a scene in the movie, Jim Braddock seeing his family in such a struggle for survival, decides to get with his manager and the manger gets Jim a fight even though his license is resigned. Before that fight the manager hears Jim Braddock’s stomach growl and get him a bowl of food. Jim can not use his hand because they are wrapped and puts his face in the bowl to eat. The night before he had given his food to his daughter to eat because she was hungry. Jim Braddock did this for his family. He knew this was a way he could bring home money to provide for his family.
