DREAMGIRLS REVIEW The story is set in the early 1960s where soul music was starting to become a popular genre in which people started to listen to. With the beginning of soul music, this led to create many singing groups, which they all started off as a not so famous group, and then transformed themselves as the next big soul music groups, where the U.S nation would be amazed by their music. One particular group that struggled to become a recognizable group was The Dreamgirls. The group was composed of three women, which included, Effie White and best friends, Deena Jones, and Lorrell Robinson. At the start of the story, The Dreamgirls enter into an Amatuer Night talent competition in Harlem, New York in which the sing “Your Steppin’ on My Heart.” They compete against other contestants, but in …show more content…
Although they lose they do not lose hope, because they meet Curtis Taylor, which becomes their managers. Curtis Taylor was first a cars-salesmen and then went in the music industry where he would be singers managers. Curtis first starts The Dreamgirls off as backup singers for a popular R&B star named Jimmy Early, who is kind of crazy/party person. Jimmy did not mind since he needed some new material, so that his fame could keep on going as well as become even bigger. Jimmy Early and The Dreamgirls sing together and later make a hit single called “Cadillac Car” which reaches to the top of pop charts, but the song is then stolen by white singers, which made a different version of the song and steals the original recordings. At the time of the 1960s, it was deemed normal for other artist to steal music from African-Americans, since they wanted the music to stick out to white people. Angered by the white singers, Curtis, Jimmy, and the Dreamgirls, go and bribe major radio stations to play their next hit song. This leads to the group to becoming very famous. The holidays were arriving, and the two brothers were in a completely divergent environment and atmosphere.
Ovid Futch’s story of the war’s prisoners, takes the reader through the journey all of the ins and outs of the lives of the captives taken by the Confederate Soldiers. Mr. Futch actually died before his book was published. He did many years of research before finally passing away, digging into books and records that had never been put out to the public. He went through all of the documents that even barely related to the book he was attempting to write and then sorted out what was actually first hand and true, from the things that had been passed down from generation to generation and been changed so many times it was hardly true anymore. He finally had his book together after many years of work, but passed away before he ever saw it published.
October Sky demonstrated a great amount of persistence and hard work into achieving your goals and I consider myself very diligent when it comes to something I want to pursue. Just like Sonny, I am still learning about myself and I believe that confidence is an enormous factor when following your dreams. How the Garcia Girls Lost Their Accent is very relatable to girls in this generation when it talks about the role of women in this society. Women are held at a very high standard and when they don’t meet a certain expectation in regard to etiquette and how women present themselves, they are suddenly looked down upon. All around the world women are treated unequally due to the traditional society that we live in.

McGuire, does not sound at first like a book that would provide ample information about the role of the Ku Klux Klan in the Civil Rights Era, but through the various cases and demonstrations presented by McGuire, the reader is given insight into the Ku Klux Klan that has yet to presented by another author read for this study. In her book, McGuire analyzes various court cases and movements from the early 20th century into the 1970s to show the growth of the civil rights movement through black women's resistance. In the chapter the Stocking there is one object that is continuously being brought up. The pantyhoe is the object but not only a object it is like a forcefield that protects the squad when on patrol. Henry Dobbin said,”when the platoon was in a fight fight in a rice padd all he did was slip the pantyhoe over is nose and let it do the magic. ”(112) Then after that happened that platoon turned into believers of the magic pantyhoe.
Girl, Interrupted by Susanna Kaysen The book Girl interrupted is a humorous nonfiction Autobiographical book about the author Susanna Kaysen experience in side a mental intuition with others in which she encountered. The story takes place in 1967 Massachusetts inside McLean Hospital. Kaysen, who voluntarily enters a mental institution after visiting her psychiatrist and discovers she is having a problem and offers her a place to “rest”. She plans on staying just a few weeks but ends up stay a total of 18 months were she meets many of other mental ill patients and is later diagnosis with Borderline Personality Disorder.
In Stargirl by Jerry Spinelli, every student Mica high school is all the same: same clothes, same hair, same earrings, same everything. In the late 1800’s and early 1900’s it was incredibly difficult for a woman to express her thoughts simply because she was not a man. The two novels, The Awakening, by Kate Chopin, and The House of Mirth, by Edith Wharton, use their writing to explore what it would be like for a woman to explore herself. The Awakening is a story about a woman, Edna, who is determined to find her true self no matter what it takes. In the story, Edna leaves her husband and begins living on her own, in her own house in order to find her independence. This search for independence is interesting because I believe that it is something that I can relate to, even in this day and age.
Michelle Alexander in the first chapter, reviews the history of racial social control in the United States. She describes the different forms and patterns of the racial caste system. The author maintains that the racial prejudice and hierarchy has been sustained as a result of the insecurities of the lower-class whites. Her main point was that "racial segregation would soon evolve into a new caste system" (p. 40). Alexander explains that even though slavery ended after the Civil War, it left a big impact on the American community.
Edna Pontellier in the novel, The Awakening, is a self-driven woman determined to become independent and free whilst undergoing a significant change in behavior throughout the novel. She attempts to withstand societal expectations by doing certain things that were not socially acceptable during this time period. While doing so, she experiences many different struggles during her awakening. These struggles that Edna undergoes may be described as internal as well as external. In the awakening, there is a constant conflict between inner and outer Edna.
The main components of the story start with three girls dressed in bathing suits, one of which is a two-piece outfit walking into the A&P store. The book Awakenings the author is Oliver Sacks. The movie is about the doctor who applied in a hospital where he was assign in a ward full of catatonic patient. This paper will be presenting the curiosity of Dr. Seyer in order to find the cure of catatonic. The doctors in the movie where not dedicated to their work as much as Dr. Seyer.

Eva is the main female protagonist and she has decisions to make about Gideon the male protagonist in the novel. In the novel “Bared to You” by Sylvia Day, Eva is faced with a mutual conflict between choosing Gideon or her friend. Gideon is her boss he tries to spend time with Eva because he had began to take an interest in her, but she made plans with Cary, her friend who moved with her, she calls Gideon and tells him “Chicks before dicks, and all that.”(Day 35).
