Time, something no one wants to waste because everyone only has a limited amount, some people even less than others. The Odyssey is a great epic about a man and his long journey home after the Trojan War and all of the hiccups he experiences on the way home. Another story dealing with time sensitivity is A Monster Calls. This story entails a young boy and his struggle to deal with his monster, his mother 's illness, and the little time he has left with her. Both stories have similar themes that are interpreted very differently. That time is precious and when one wastes that time, there are certain consequences. In The Odyssey, Odysseus makes many stops on his journey home, delaying his trip even further. Homer tries to make Odysseus out to be some hero, but on his mind set is throughout the book is that he can do anything he wants. Even if his actions do hurt other he still will not have any repercussions. One of the only times in the epic that Odysseus actually shows his dejected state is when he 's cries on Calypso 's Island during the day and sleeps with her during the night. A quote to support this is “Off he sat on a headland weeping, there as a always, wrenching his heart with sobs and groans and anguish, gazing out over the barren sea through blinding tears...But lustrous Calypso shuddered at those words and burst into a flight of indignation. “Hard-hearted you are, you gods! You unrivaled lords of jealousyーscandalized when goddesses sleep with mortals, openly, even when one has made the man her husband.” (The Odyssey, 155-156) The quote aboves shows that Odysseus does show that he is upset with the “events” that have transpired on his journey home. However, it also shows that he chose to sleep with Calypso not thinking of how his actions might affect Penelope or Telemachus. Odysseus knows at this point that he has already been away from Ithaca for quite a long time but he still is not careful about how he uses and misuses his time
