Character cannot be developed in ease and quiet only through experience of trial and suffering can the soul be strengthened, ambition inspired, and success achieved. The Outsiders by S. E. Hinton is about a young boy and his crew's life in Oklahoma as they battle crime, gang fights, poverty, and trauma. Johnny Cade is a traumatized and nervous young man who becomes more brave before his tragic death. In The Outsiders by S.E Hinton it states “I looked quickly at Johnny,an idea dawning on me. I remembered that it was a blue mustang that had pulled up aside the vacant lot and that Johnnys face had been cut up by someone wearing rings.”(Hinton p.44) This quote describes a traumatic experience that Johnny had. This shows that Johnny is brave as he killed someone to save one of his friends. In chp. 6 of The Outsiders by S.E. Hinton the author states “I caught one look at his face; It was red marked from falling embers and sweat streaked but he grinned at me. He wasn't scared either.” (Hinton p.92) This shows that Johnny is brave because he put himself in a life or death situation to save people he doesn't know. As in this part of the story Johnny and his friend are in a church that is on fire so they can save the little children trapped inside. In chapter four of the outsiders by S.E. Hinton states “we’ll need money. And maybe a gun. And a plan.” (Hinton, p.57) This shows that Johnny is smart because he is thinking about how to get out of a rough situation. Johnny sat down and pulled out his knife, “we’re gonna cut our hair and you’re gonna bleach your’s. They’ll have our descriptions in the paper. We cant fit em.” (Hinton, p.71) This shows that Johnny is smart because he knows that if they change their looks they will not get caught by the
Johnny is a very shy and small boy that nobody would ever think in their good mind that he is the best hero in the novel, The Outsiders. Johnny has did a lot of things in the novel that you would think a kid like him would never do. Johnny Cade is the hero because he is identified for his courage, has outstanding achievements, and finally stood up to his parents Johnny Cade is the prime hero in the novel, The Outsiders because after he killed
A boy that was disliked by his parents, he was only sixteen and he was in a pretty rough gang. They got into trouble, but not so much him, his name was Johnny. Johnny is brave, he is kind to others, and he is nervous of the world. The author of Outsiders was S.E. Hinton. Johnny was the pet of their gang and was an important person to the rest of the gang.
He wouldn’t do anything drastic like this. In this case, seeing his good friend Ponyboy getting hurt was not something worth watching. He picked up his switchblade and stabbed Bob. Johnny acted in a way different from his personality, but it was because of his loyalty to Ponyboy. After this disaster, Ponyboy is thankful for Johnny’s act.
When his friend was in danger, the hero showed up again and saved the day. Johnny is the real hero of The Outsiders because he demonstrates the traits selflessness and courage. A particularly important trait to have as a hero is selflessness. A selfless person will always put others in front of themselves according to “Buzzle.”
He shows bravery by going into the fire and saying “i’ll get them, don’t worry i’ll get them”. By saving the kids, Johnny is then deemed a hero by everyone around him. It shows how he didn’t think twice
Johnny comes from a troubled background, and his innocence has long been compromised by abuse and neglect. However, it is through the tragic events that Johnny experiences alongside Ponyboy that his loss of innocence becomes evident. After being forced to take a life in self-defense, Johnny confesses, "I killed him... I killed that boy" (Hinton, 56). This moment marks a turning point in Johnny's character arc, as he grapples with guilt and the irreversible consequences of his actions.
From a long quote that was located at the end of chapter 2, “It was almost four months ago...... Not over his dead body...... ”(Hinton PDF 29-31), it showed that four months before the story began, Johnny had been beaten to half-death by four Socs for no reasons, and he never stopped fearing about getting beaten up by the Socs. Although every Greaser had the experience of getting attacked, no one got beaten like that before. From this quote, we could tell that after this event occurred to Johnny, he never felt safe while on the streets, and started to bring a switchblade with him to self defence, even he still was the most law-obeying member of the Greasers.
He gets along with Ponyboy so well because of this as well. All of the gang looks at Johnny as the little brother of the group. Johnny was always quiet and didn’t get into much trouble besides when he got jumped by Socs. When the boys were in the church Ponyboy was talking about how he felt different and that he could only talk about certain stuff with Johnny because he was different as well, but then Johnny went “Johnny shrugged.
and I know it was worth it.” This shows that he was focusing on what mattered to him the most with the little time he had. That is the main reason that Johnny started
In the book The Outsiders, author S.E Hinton changes Johnny’s character from shy and nervous in the beginning to brave. She uses the fire scene in chapter 6 to reveal this new side of Johnny by having him heroically rescue the children and save Ponyboy’s life. Firstly, Johnny is so shy and nervous around people he’s always quiet and can barely say hi. The text states, "“Johnny wouldn’t open his mouth unless he was forced to.”
In S.E. Hinton's book, The Outsiders, many things and people change, but the most noticeable change was in Johnny Cade. Johnny had always been the quiet one, sitting back and doing whatever the others told him, but by the end of the book, everything had changed for him: who he was, what his situation was, and the confidence he had grew to enormous heights. This was a key part of the book because without these drastic changes in Johnny, the book would have stopped on chapter two. At first, Johnny was quiet and never talked back to anyone in the gang. His parents always treated him terribly and the gang was the closest thing he had to family, “. . .
But he did have a minor change, he began to expose a little of his warm-heartedness, after Johnny and Dally died, he didn’t appear much anymore in the story line, but the readers can picture him maturing every passing day but still kept his generous humor. The theme of The Outsiders is about adolescence—discovery, pain, loneliness since in this heart-rending novel, all of the characters suffered for 1. Johnny and Ponyboy had to hide away since Johnny killed Bob, 2. The class conflict between greasers and Socs, 3. Johnny’s and Dally’s death, 4.
In the beginning of the novel, The Outsiders, written by S.E Hinton, the author portrays Johnny Cade as a weak and helpless character in the book. He`s seen as a dynamic character that has gone through extremely tough times that are difficult for him to handle alone. ``He was the gangs`pet, everyones` kid brother``, if it hadn`t been for the gang Johnny would have never felt love nor affection. He always seemed to have an anxious and suspicious look in his eyes, he was a nervous wreck. He struggled in the areas of self-confidence and loving himself, that even the idea of suicide popped in his head.
At the beginning of the novel, Johnny lacked confidence and self-esteem. At times he thought about attempting suicide. S.E. Hinton describes Johnny as, “A little dark puppy that has been kicked too many times and lost his crowd of strangers” (11). This is because Johnny 's parents are abusive: his mother verbally and his father
After Johnny had killed Bob, and they ran away, Johnny says something to Ponyboy in the church that surprises him. After Johnny left to get supplies, he says, “We’re gonna cut our hair, and your gonna bleach yours.” (71) Johnny saying this, shows that he is starting to take action after what had happened at the park. It shows that reality is hitting Johnny, and this actually makes him slightly tougher in a way. Johnny, being a shy person usually doesn’t take action to solve the problem at han, but by doing this, it shows he is less soft and more hardy than we thought.
