Another theme relating to the conflict of John Proctor being hanged is the theme of “lying eventually catches up to you.” When Abby saw that John was getting accused she was angry because the whole reason she was lying was to get to John and try to be with him and Reverend Hale felt bad because he didn’t think that Proctor, Cory or Nurse were witches. Abby then went to the judge of the court and told him that Hale’s wife was a witch. At that moment they realized that Abby was just crazy. Abby knew that they no longer believed her and they felt as if all the other accusations were lies just like the one she was trying to tell them now. Pressure and its Entangling Effects in The Crucible Pressure is a challenge that is a daily trial that twists and takes over the agency of numerous people. It is comparable to a weed, it entangles itself around an indecisive person bending the victim to its will.
