Roughly 44% of American murder victims die at the hands of relatives or friends; only 13% die to strangers. JonBenét Ramsey, a 6-year old beauty pageant contestant was murdered. In her own home found the day after Christmas. Her death is a mystery that has stunned investigators country wide. John Mark Karr and her family are two well known theories about the untimely death of JonBenét Ramsey. John Mark Karr fled the U.S. after being charged with child pornograghy charges, he was a fugitive in Thailand trying ro use the, “Get out of a Thai jail free” card to escape charger, and find a teaching job in Thailand (Merritt). Eventually, years later the former elementary school teacher, John Karr, confessed to be with JonBenét when she was murdered, “I loved JonBenét and she died accidently”(Chadwick). Karr had shocked many people after confessing to the 6-year old’s death. Soon after his confession to the killings; “In 2006 former school teacher John Mark Karr was arrested after confessing to the murder”(Ramsey is Murdered). Reportedly there had been emails from Karr sent to Michael Tracey, distressing emails, which Michael decided to provide to the DA (Merritt). The ransom note was written with a pen and pad that already belonged to the Ramsey’s, asking for money that was the same amount John Ramsey had received for his Christmas bonus from work (Newton 99). The Ramseys days after their daughter’s death had begun to stop cooperating with the police on the investigation and instead hired investigators and lawyers of their own (Carr). Some of the signs shown by the Ramseys point to the theory that they could have been the ones behind their daughters murder.
