In the book, Night, one character changes profoundly throughout the book. Eliezer transformation is seen in following excerpt, “My eyes had opened and I was alone, terribly alone in a world without God, without man. Without love or mercy.” (68). This passage shows that Eliezer’s faith has been vastly diminished and perhaps quenched permanently. At the beginning of the novel Eliezer is strong in his belief of God and prays and studies scripture with his friend Moishe. That is a strong change to go from Eliezer reassuring his faith every day to saying that he was in a world without God, love, or mercy.
