Urgent! Our young brothers are dying. It didn’t just begin, but, it has been happening way before our ancestors picked cotton from the plantations. Whether it’s blacks killing blacks, or whites killing blacks, our community needs to fight this atrocity. In 2015, the polls stated that blacks were killed at twice the rate of whites, Hispanics, and Native Americans. Among the African American race about twenty-five percent of African Americans killed were without weapons at the time of their killings. Over 1,134 white male officer related deaths have occurred among African American young males in the year 2015. The most conversed story of an African American young male dying at the hands of a police officer was, Trayvon Martin. Trayvon was born on February 5, 1995, in Florida; he was an average teen who enjoyed athletics and learning. On August 19th, Kajieme Powell was shot twelve times and killed. Kajieme Powell, a twenty-five year old black male was suspected of robbing a convenient store and of having a weapon, so the police officer shot. Luckily, a witness caught the whole thing on tape and the disturbing video is now on Youtube. This is the second incident in the past few weeks around the St. Louis surrounding area that a young black male was killed after being suspected of a minor crimes (jaywalking in Michael Brown’s case and shoplifting in Jajieme Powell’s case). Stories of the death of 17-year-old Trayvon Martin were seen and heard on nearly every news outlet and radio station beginning in February of 2012. On the night of February 26th, 2012 Trayvon Martin, an African-American teenager was walking home from a 7/11 convenience store carrying a small bag containing an Arizona iced tea beverage and a bag of skittles. On his way home, Martin was gunned downed in the streets of a gated community in the state of Florida by 28-year-old white resident George Zimmerman. While Martin was unarmed and had no criminal intent in mind, Zimmerman claimed to fear for his safety. This led to Zimmerman shooting Martin several times, which Martin shortly after died from.

Dating back to the unfortunate events that took place in Ferguson with the shooting of a young black male named Michael Brown, the even has grown infamously and famously depending on which side you tend to agree with. Countless people have given their input on the situation and not all blacks tend to agree with the movement of “Black Lives Matter”. Recently a women named Peggy Hubbard went on a rant about how she felt the movement was an unjust movement. Ms. Hubbard stated that saying black lives matter was implying that no other lives within the community mattered.

This article extend beyond the idea of Black Lives Matter and wants the reader to be informed on what it is like to be black in america.
